What we aspire to do — educate servant leaders — has not changed for over a hundred years. For generations, teachers, coaches, and staff have helped students identify and nurture their God-given gifts and talents. By God’s grace, we will continue to educate servant leaders who glorify God for generations.

I love going to school. I love third grade. It was so much fun. I was excited to see everyone like my friends and my teacher. My favorite subject is math. I really like my class, but I love my small group for math and reading. When I’m in a small group it’s easier for me to pay attention. If I need help, I get it right away. I like it when the teacher works one-on-one with me. It helps me understand everything better.

MTSS, or Multi-System of Support, helps us get a better understanding of where kids are at. From there we break them down into small groups and they get individualized instruction. If kids are excelling, they are challenged during their small group time. When a student is struggling with concepts, they are able to receive a small group lesson at the level they are at. We adjust the reading groups three times a year. But in third grade, we change the math groups every two weeks. It’s really great because as the concept changes we can continue to meet the instructional needs at every student’s level. Small groups give us a chance to review the concepts without missing any classroom instruction. We are able to keep challenging students and meeting them exactly where they are at.

MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) is really helpful for Peyton. She needs the nurture and the attention and she thrives in spaces where she gets focused on one-on-one.  I've seen her confidence grow because of MTSS. She is reading and doing math well above the third grade level. MTSS has stretched her and makes her feel like she’s being challenged more. She takes on those challenges and it builds her confidence and she feels like she can do even more. The teachers are meeting her exactly where she is at.

I loved kindergarten, especially my teacher Mrs. VanderNaald. My favorite part of kindergarten was when I got to play with things like Magna-tiles. Mrs VanderNaald read lots of books to us. My favorite was “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.” She also helped me learn how to read! My favorite thing, though, was learning more about God and His creation.

Mrs. VanderNaald is like the storybook kindergarten teacher—she is everything you would hope a kindergarten teacher would be. She truly loves every student. She's been doing this for years and has had so many students. But every year she grows close to the students in her class and gets to know them individually. We loved watching Aydelin learn more about the Bible and learn more about God's creation. It’s so wonderful to know that the Bible is infused into every aspect of class.

I began teaching at Timothy in 1984. But there always has been more to learn about teaching, which has kept it new and fresh, so I’m still very passionate about this age group and about teaching in general. Kindergarten students are so curious. They love everything. You talk about the faith of a child! They love Jesus. Everything is wonderful. They are so excited to be in the classroom—to be with each other, to be learning, to be playing, to be a part of a larger community. Teaching kindergarten is where God has put me, and it’s where I feel best suited to be. I am passionate about teaching them, but I feel they are equally passionate about learning.

Before I came to Timothy, I went to a school where we didn’t learn about Jesus. I like to learn about Jesus. I like to read Bible stories and draw in my Bible journal. My favorite part of school is chapel. We get to sing songs and hear more Bible stories. But I especially like my chapel buddies. They are older than me. But I sit next to them every time. They know my name and they even say hi to me when I see them in the hallway!

We were originally going to send Rocky to a public school. But then when he was in preschool he asked us why he never learned about Jesus at school. My friends encouraged us to take a tour of Timothy. He was going to spend most of his time in a school where he couldn’t talk about Jesus! The facilities at Timothy are great, but it was really an eye opener that they can read the Bible or learn verses at school. What I saw happening at Timothy was really encouraging! Rocky also goes to chapel every week and he has chapel buddies, who are older than he is.  They are like his big brothers right at school--it’s a really wonderful setup. It’s our prayer that as he grows his faith will become his own.

Mr. Weiner

Chapel buddies are a great recipe for faith development—mix mentoring with responsibility and add worship! Younger students love going to chapel with those from the upper elementary grades. Age appropriate chapels engage students and reinforce spiritual truths taught in church and home. Chapel makes obvious what infuses all we do at Timothy—Jesus is our Savior and Lord. One of the holiest moments at Timothy is to hear children singing out in worship with unhindered voices and enthusiastic motions.
