Mrs. Kate Adams
Personal Profile
I grew up in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and attended Christian grade school and high school. I am the oldest child in my family and have two younger siblings with whom I am very close. I love to be active and outdoors, and enjoy things like running, camping, biking, and going to the beach. I also love to hang out with my family and play games. My husband of two years, Vinnie, and I currently live in Worth, IL. He is a middle school teacher at Elim Christian School and is a member of the worship team at our church. I love finding out about God while exploring His creation; and I am passionate about trying to understand what it means to live as a responsible Christian in God’s world.
Professional Profile and Educational Philosophy
I graduated from Calvin College in May of 2009 with a degree in biology and secondary education, and a minor in health education. I completed my student teaching at Holland Christian Middle School under an exemplary science teacher. My undergraduate and graduate classes at Calvin taught me a great deal about inquiry based education, the learning cycle, and teaching science as models. Using inquiry based activities and presenting science concepts as models is more reflective of the true nature of science, and encourages student’s interest and understanding. The learning cycle has been shown to increase comprehension of science topics. By teaching science in this way the scientific literacy of students should increase. Not only do I want student’s passion for and knowledge of science to grow, but I strive to make every student feel that they are valued, and that my classroom is a place of safety. Most importantly, the science classroom is a great place to discuss faith. General revelation is all around; and all we have to do is take a closer look to have a glimpse into the awesomeness of our Creator.
