Kay Rops '87

Kay Rops puts her education and her gifts to good use: nurturing the spiritual life of young people who are at times troubled, at times hopeful, and always full of promise.  Her work with them and her investment in her community reflect one of the central beliefs from Timothy’s Vision Statement:

“We reflect God’s Kingdom by serving Christian families from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds and students who possess a wide range of abilities.”

Kay’s work with and for the youth of the Berwyn-Cicero area is a comprehensive Christlike effort to bring kids to healing and wholeness.

Kay is a Timothy “lifer,” having attended from grade one through her graduation from high school in 1987. She attended Concordia University in River Forest and graduated with a BA in social work.  Kay worked with developmentally disabled young people for four years and then at a residential treatment center for youth for five, first as a child care worker and soon as a supervisor.  Upon graduation from Timothy she volunteered at her home church, Ebenezer Christian Reformed in Berwyn, and in 1995 was hired as their first youth director. Along the way Kay received her certificate in addictions counseling and graduated from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 2004.

She continues her work at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church, now as the Director of Youth and Community Care. Her effective ministry to the young people of the community is one of the main reasons that her church continues to make a commitment to those around it. Kay is an outstanding example of an “academically prepared Christian disciple who embraces Christ’s call to transform the world.” Certain of her calling in Jesus Christ, Kay is an agent for Christ’s redemptive work in her community.
