Trojans 42 Ridgewood 40
We were victorious in the season finale this morning. Justin Funchess scored 8 points in the 1st half to lead us to a 29-15 halftime lead. The Rebels stormed back in the 2nd half, but we held on for the two-point victory. Funchess added 8 points in the 2nd half to finish with 16, Brandon Scott added 11 points, with Matt Huizinga chipping in with 5. Funchess, Huizinga, and Philip Stanton each had 4 rebounds. We finished the year with a 7-17 record.
"B" game
Trojans 50 Ridgewood 11
John Elsey was an offensive juggernaut in the game scoring 23 points. Jimmy Larkin added 11. Lewis Gardner had 10 rebounds, while Jake Hooker and Richard Medina each dished out 4 assists.
2/18/10 - vs Fenton-L- 46- 21
Ben Zastrow was again our leading rebounder with 8 boards. He also shared the scoring lead with Jimmy Larkin and Justin Funchess…each scoring 4 points.

Phillip Stanton (6 points) and Tim Huizinga (5) lead the offensive end. Matt Huizinga pulled down 8 rebounds and Lewis Gardner chipped in with 5.
2/16/10 - vs. Chicago Christian - L- 54- 37
Justin Funchess (12 points) and Jimmy Huisman (8) led our scorers tonight. Funchess added 6 boards.
2/13/10 - TROJANS WIN TWO!! CONSOLATION CHAMPS!!
We traveled to Lisle for the second day of the Lisle Tourney and came home "Consolation Champs."
Trojans 40 Sandwich 36
The first game against the Sandwich Indians was a tight contest the entire game. Leonard Rogers scored 10 points off the bench. In a balanced offensive attack, Jimmy Huisman added 8, Justin Funchess 7, and Jimmy Larkin and Philip Stanton 6 each. Ben Zastrow did yeoman work on the boards grabbing 12 errant shots Brandon Scott assisted him by hauling down 9.
Trojans 50 Lisle 24
With a nice closing run, we were able to pull away a little bit just before the halftime break. Rogers (who also had 5 assists on the day) hit a couple of jumpers to key the run. For the game, Justin Funchess led all scorers with 15 points and also made 5 steals on the defensive end. Huisman added 8 points and Jonathan Elsey came off the bench to chip in with 7. Larkin grabbed 6 rebounds. Jake Hooker helped on the defensive end recording 3 blocked shots.
2/10/10 - vs. Dwight - L-42-25
In this first game of the Lisle Tourney, we trailed by 9 at halftime and then staged a terrific comeback in the 3rd quarter and took a 25-23 lead, but Dwight went on a 19‑0 run to finish the game. Jimmy Larkin finished with 7 points. Richard Medina had 4 rebounds.
2/9/10 - vs. Aurora Christian - L-48-36
Jimmy Huisman and Brandon Scott shared scoring honors tonight…each scoring 10 points. Richard Medina and Ben Zastrow each grabbed 5 rebounds.
2/4/10 - vs. Elmwood Park -L-42-32
Jimmy Huisman and Brandon Scott shared team scoring honors with 6 points…3 baskets each. Leonard Rogers and Jimmy Larkin each added 5 points. Ben Zastrow grabbed 4 rebounds.

In the “B” game Justin Funchess scored 10 points on 5-7 shooting. Lewis Gardner chipped in with 8 and Jonathan Elsey added 6. Gardner also grabbed 8 rebounds to share the team lead with Jake Hooker. Hooker also blocked 4 shots.
2/2/10 - vs. Westmont - W-35-29-OT
Justin Funchess scored 12 points to lead us offensively in our overtime victory tonight. Leonard Rogers chipped in with 7 and also added 4 steals. Matt Huizinga was our rebounding leader with 7.
1/30/10 vs. Riverside-BrookfieldL- 55-37
We played like bulldogs against the Bulldogs this morning, but fell to them for the second time this season. Richard Medina led the team in scoring with 9 points, followed by Ben Zastrow with 7 and Leonard Rogers with 6. Justin Funchess grabbed 7 rebounds and was helped on the glass by Jimmy Larkin who snared 6.

Riverside-Brookfield 55 Trojans 30
Tim Huizinga was our offensive leader scoring 14 points (including a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe). Tim also grabbed 6 rebounds, but brother Matt was the rebounding leader with 7 boards.
1/27/10 - vs. Luther North - W-42-34
We traveled to the Wildcats den at Luther North tonight and emerged with a 42-34 victory. Jimmy Larkin, with 6 points, helped us jump out to a 9-4 first quarter lead. We struggled through the middle two quarters emerging with a single-point third quarter lead. Then, finishing strong, we won the last quarter 15-8. Larkin finished with 16 points to lead all scorers, and also added 8 rebounds. Justin Funchess and Philip Stanton each added 6 points. Stanton grabbed 8 rebounds and Matt Huizinga chipped in with 5 boards.
1/22/10 vs. Illiana Christian L-59-30
It was a rough night for us in Lansing. The Vikings jumped out to a 17-4 first quarter lead and never looked back. Jimmy Larkin was our scoring leader with 8 points (3-5 FG and 2-2 FT). Larkin also added 4 steals on the defensive end. Phillip Stanton added 6 points. Brandon Scott grabbed 6 rebounds.

Lewis Gardner and Jake Hooker each netted 2 baskets to lead our scoring. Hooker also added 7 rebounds.
1/19/10 vs. Wather Lutheran - L-60-47
The Broncos left the court at halftime leading 27-15. A very entertaining second half, with Walther outscoring us 33-32, resulted in the final score. Justin Funchess led all scorers with 24 points. He was joined by 8 teammates in the scoring column. Brandon Scott snared 4 rebounds in playing time that was limited due to foul trouble. Leonard Rogers contributed 4 assists.
1/15/10 - vs. Ridgewood - W-45-36
Jimmy Huisman and Leonard Rogers each made 2 baskets to propel us to a 13-8 first-quarter lead in the Rebels’ gym tonight. Ridgewood turned the tables in the second quarter and went into the locker room with a 26-17 lead. Justin Funchess (16 points overall) led a second-half surge with 12 points and we also turned up the defensive intensity outscoring the Rebels 28-10 in the second half, resulting in a 45-36 victory. Leonard Rogers chipped in with 12 points. Ben Zastrow was once again strong on the boards snagging 9 rebounds, while Huisman grabbed 5. Jimmy Larkin was instrumental in our second-half defense effort with 4 steals to go along with his overall ball pressure.

Brandon Scott had 8 steals and 10 points in the first quarter as we stormed to a 20-2 lead. Jonathan Elsey finished with 21 points, Lewis Gardner added 14 points and Jake Hooker tallied 12. Gardner and Tim Huizinga each snared 9 rebounds.
1/9/10 - vs. Fenton L-39-22
After the teams battled to an 11-11 halftime standoff, the Bison pulled away in the 3rd quarter outscoring us 15-3. We battled back in the 4th quarter, but Fenton was 8-10 from the charity stripe and was able to extend their lead to the final score. Justin Funchess scored 7 points, Leonard Rogers 6 and Jimmy Huisman 5 to lead us on the offensive end. Rogers and Brandon Scott each snagged 5 rebounds to lead that category.
“B” game - L-50-31
Jimmy Huisman (10 pts) and Jonathan Elsey (7) led the scoring attack for us in the 2nd game. Jake Hooker had 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
1/6/10 - Lisle High School - W-30-24
We picked up our first win of the season in the Lions’ Den at Lisle High School with a final score of 30-24. Having had no competition over Christmas vacation, both teams started sluggishly resulting in a 2-2 1st quarter score. The Lions picked it up a bit taking an 11-5 lead into the locker room at halftime. Tim Huizinga scored the first 4 points of the 2nd half and we were able to cut the deficit to 17-13 at the end of the 3rd quarter. We kept battling through the 4th quarter and when Leonard Rogers nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key with about 25 seconds to go we were headed for overtime. Jimmy Huisman scored 4 points (2-2 from the charity stripe) in the extra stanza, with Rogers and Jimmy Larkin each adding a bucket. Rogers finished with 8 points and 4 steals…Ben Zastrow added 5 points to go with 4 rebounds. Brandon Scott was the big man on the boards grabbing 7 errant shots.
12/15/09 - Nazareth Academy 55 Trojans 17
We played a very good Roadrunner team tonight. Tim Huizinga led the scorers with 6 points followed by Brandon Scott with 5. Ben Zastrow grabbed 7 rebounds and Scott chipped in with 6.

Riverside-Brookfield 54 Trojans 36
We jumped out to a 6-3 lead at the end of one quarter this morning, but then the Bulldogs went on 21-5 second quarter surge to take a 13-point lead at the half. We played them fairly even during the second half. Justin Funchess (12) and Phillip Stanton (11) were our leading scorers. Leonard Rogers snagged 6 errant shots. Our free throw shooting (11-14) was the best of the year so far.
“B” game
Riverside-Brookfield 53 Trojans 32
Brandon Scott scored 14 (along with grabbing 6 rebounds) to take high-point honors in the “B” game. The Huizinga brothers—Matt and Tim—each added 7. Jimmy Larkin had 4 steals on the defensive end.
12/4/09 vs. Illiana Christian -L-42-21
We trailed by 5 at the end of one quarter. We played the Vikings even in the 2nd quarter, going into the locker room down 17-12. Illiana took charge in the 3rd quarter outscoring us 10-2. Four players (Funchess, Medina, Scott, and Zastrow) each scored 4 points. Matt Huizinga and Richard Medina both snared 5 rebounds
12/1/09 - vs. Immaculate Conception - L-39-32
In the second installment of the in-town rivalry (the second meeting in five days) the Knights prevailed again. We went into the locker room at halftime with a 20-19 lead. But I.C. regained control and had a 31-24 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. The teams battled to an 8-8 draw in the final stanza. Jimmy Huisman led the scoring with 8 points.
Chicago Christian Thanksgiving Tournament
11/24/09 - vs. Lisle - L-32-24
We grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the season opener tonight. Ben Zastrow scored on a short jumper, was fouled, and made the free throw to complete the three-point play. But the Lions took control from that point and took a 17-7 lead into the locker room at halftime. We came out more aggressive and started the 2nd half on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 17-14. But Lisle regained their composure and went on to win the game. Justin Funchess and Leonard Rogers (also 3 assists) each scored 4 points. Jimmy Huisman, Phillip Stanton and Ben Zastrow each snagged 3 rebounds.
11/27/09 - vs. Immaculate Conception - L-27-23
In our second game of the tournament we started slowly and were behind 10-4 at the quarter break. We played better defensively in the 2nd quarter and trailed 13-10 at halftime. Phillip Stanton scored 6 points in the 3rd stanza as we pulled to a 19-19 deadlock. We eventually took a two-point lead in the 4th, but couldn’t hold on. Stanton finished with 10 points. Justin Funchess and Jimmy Huisman each snared 5 rebounds.
vs. Chicago Christian - L-55-35
The Knights rolled to a 14-8 first quarter lead and never looked back. As in the first two games of the tournament, we played hard, but were overmatched. Stanton and Tim Huizinga each scored 6 points to lead the offensive attack. Funchess had 5 rebounds and Jake Hooker and Ben Zastrow each grabbed 4.
