The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers Book Award is an annual “contest” between 20 books.  It was developed to encourage children and young adults to read for personal satisfaction. It is an Illinois award for outstanding literature for young people and is sponsored by the Illinois Reading Council, the Illinois School Library Media Association, and the Illinois Association of Teachers of English.

Many students in grades 4-8 eagerly read the nominated books so that they can cast their vote for their favorite at the end of February.  Students must read at least 3 of the books to be eligible to vote.

The following incentives encourage students to read even more:

             - Students who read at least 10 of the nominated books are invited to
                the annual Caudill pizza party.

              - Students who read at least 15 of the nominated books also have
ice  cream sundaes at the pizza party.

              - Students who read all 20 of the books also accompany Mrs. Stein on
the “bookstore shopping spree” to help select books for our library.
