Girls Varsity Basketball - 2011-12

Game Summaries
Lady Trojans Defeat Glenbard South
1.31.12
Last night's game at Glenbard South was a fun one. With both teams coming into the game with only one loss in the conference, the importance of a victory for either team was crucial. Knowing that going into the game, the Lady Trojans were excited and eager to get the game going. The coach on the other hand had plenty of nervous excitement and so many thoughts flooded his mind. Needless to say, all of those things go away once the game starts.
Timothy came out with a great start with posting a lead of 12-4 at one point in the first quarter. Glenbard South finished up the quarter by scoring the last four points to make it 12-8 after one.
Both teams found some offensive flow in the second quarter with Timothy scoring 17 points and Glenbard scoring 15. That allowed TC to take a 29-23 lead into the half. The second quarter saw some timely three's from Kelli LeGrand and Jessica Dirkse.
The third quarter did not resemble the second quarter in that each team struggled to score at times. Thankfully Timothy was able to win the quarter 9-8 and take a 38-31 lead into the fourth quarter.
Free throws were the name of the game in the fourth. The Lady Trojans scored 10 points alone on free throws while only making two baskets. Overall, Timothy shot 22-28 from the line, which proved to be a valuable asset tonight. The final score ended up being 52-37.
As was the case again last night, Cassidy Block continues her torrid pace of scoring by dropping 27 in the game. She also had 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks. Kelli LeGrand had 9 points, 2 rebounds, Jessica Dirkse had 6 points while Tessa Bosman had 4 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals. Shelly Ditchfield, Jasmine Stein and Stephanie Kuiper had 2 points apiece.
Next up for the Lady Trojans is Riverside-Brookfield on Thursday night. It is also Senior Night, so make plans to come out and support the Lady Trojans on this special evening.
Timothy Outlasts Fenton
1.28.12
Yesterday saw the Lady Trojans host conference foe Fenton High School. With a start time of 5:00, not a normal time, both teams found it difficult to get their offenses going. With a score of 18-17 at the half, the Lady Trojans were ready to get things going, and that they did. With a 24 point outburst in the third quarter, Timothy was able to build a little bit of a lead. However, Fenton scored 18 points in the third quarter which kept the game close. The fourth quarter had plenty of drama as Timothy thought a comfortable lead of eight points was going to win the game. But, as in most cases, the game is never easy. Fenton made a furious rally to the point where they had the last shot to win it on a three pointer. Thankfully for the Lady Trojans the shot was long and did not draw iron. The missed shot completed a game that was very tense throughout. The final score was 48-46.
Cassidy Block continued her strong play with 17 points,10 rebounds, 3 assists. Tessa Bosman stepped up and contributed 10 points and 9 rebounds. Jessica Dirkse chipped in 7 points, 2 rebounds while Stephanie Kuiper and Shelly Ditchfield each had 5 points. Kelli LeGrand had a solid all around game with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals while Jasmine Stein did a great job of handling the ball and dished out 3 assists and grabbed 3 rebounds.
Timothy battles Glenbard South on Tuesday night and then hosts Riverside-Brookfield on Thursday which will be Senior Night.
Walther Defeats TC
1.26.12
This past Thursday, the Lady Broncos came to town and defeated the Lady Trojans. On a night where our Middle School Teams were recognized and honored, Timothy was unable to pull off the victory. After getting off to a great start, the Lady Trojans slowed down and Walther was able to tie the game at the half.
Walther did a good job in the third quarter by building a lead which would allow them to hold off a late rally by the Lady Trojans. Timothy competed to the end, but it just wasn't enough. The final score ended up being 42-35.
Lady Trojans Post the Victory
1.24.12
Timothy traveled to Elmwood Park last night to continue it's quest for a conference championship. Having played EP just over a week ago, the Lady Trojans were ready to play some better defense and that is what they did. Timothy held the Tigers to three points in the first quarter and 11 points in the first half. On the flip side however, Timothy's shots were not falling as much as they would have liked, settling for outside shots. Timothy did take a 20-11 lead into the half.
The third quarter saw the Lady Trojans ramp up the offense and continue their stellar play on defense. Part of the ramped up offense featured Cassidy Block going into "beast mode" and literally dominating in all facets of the game. More on her later. With a renewed sense of energy and shots starting to fall, the Lady Trojans were able to win going away. The final score was 46-28. Timothy moves to 15-5 overall and 8-1 in conference.
As mentioned above, Cassidy Block had a stellar game. She finished the night with 30 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. It was an impressive individual performance. Other contributors on the night were Kelli LeGrand with 8 points and 8 rebounds, Jessica Dirkse with a 4 point play (three pointer and a free throw), Ciara Hoddenbach with 2 points and Amber Scheidt with 2 points. Overall, the team played some great defense and everyone deserves credit here!
Timothy is home tomorrow night vs. Walther Lutheran as the Lady Trojans welcome our Middle School Teams for "Middle School Night". Please come out and support the team as they continue to prepare for the final stretch of the season.
The Lady Trojans "Think Pink"
1.17.12
To describe what took place last night is hard to do, but I will do my best. The theme for the evening was "Think Pink" which obviously referred to bringing attention to Breast Cancer Awareness and more importantly Cancer Research as a whole. There was plenty of pink to go around last night with several fans, players and coaches decked out in the color. Thanks to some generous donors, the Lady Trojans were able to wear pink jerseys (which looked awesome)for the game.
However, before the game, the team was treated to a wonderful pre-game speech/testimony by Mrs. Tracy Leach. Her speech was inspiring and gave new insight into the battle against cancer. Above all, her courageous strength to overcome such adversity was humbling to us all.
After the testimony, it was time to play the game. Kind of hard to do after hearing such a personal story, but the Lady Trojans were ready to go! The first part of the game got off to a sluggish start with both teams missing several shots. After a lull offensively, the Lady Trojans were able to hit a three (by Jessica Dirkse) to get some momentum going into the halftime.
The third quarter saw some better execution as Timothy was able to build a little bit of a lead. As games with Chicago Christian typically go, the game was far from over. The Knights were relentless on the offensive glass, making it difficult for Timothy to build on any lead they had. In the fourth quarter it was pretty much a back and forth contest with Timothy holding a slight lead of 3 or 4 points for most of the time. The Lady Trojans were able to get the lead to 6 with less than a minute to play. However, CC hit a big three to make it a one possession game. Kelli LeGrand calmly stepped to the foul line and sank two free throws to put the game away, with a final score of 44-41.
Cassidy Block led the Lady Trojans with 20 points, 7 rebounds. Tessa Bosman had 6 points, 10 rebounds, Jessica Dirkse had 6 points and both Shelly Ditchfield and Kaylie Pries had 4 points. As mentioned above, Kelli LeGrand made two big free throws to finish with 2 points, 2 assists.
Post-Exam Victory for the Lady Trojans
1.14.12
After a week of studying and taking exams, the Lady Trojans came out with some good energy on Saturday afternoon. As a coach, you don't know what to expect in a game coming off a very long week of mental and emotional exhaustion. However, the team really stepped up and provided a good spark of enthusiasm and positive encouragement. The game itself got off to a fast start with the score being 17-9 after one quarter of play. Timothy would duplicate the scoring number of 17 in the second quarter and take a 34-20 lead into the half.
Give credit to Elmwood Park for playing a tough third quarter as they outscored and outplayed the Lady Trojans. Timothy was up to the task however and put together a solid fourth quarter and finished up the game with a 55-42 victory. Many players contributed in the team victory that improved Timothy's record to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in conference.
As mentioned above, several players stepped up today. Cassidy Block had a solid all-around game with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Tessa Bosman had 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists. Shelly Ditchfield with 9 points, 2 assists; Jessica Dirkse provided some instant offense off the bench with 8 points, 3 rebounds; Kaylie Pries and Jasmine Stein had 4 points apiece with Jasmine also dropping 4 dimes (assists) on the afternoon. Amber Scheidt had 2 points, 2 steals as the team racked up 16 assists on the day.
TC Takes Two
1.9.12
The Lady Trojans competed in two games over the weekend with a game on Friday night and then again on Saturday night. On Friday, the team traveled to Norridge to take on Ridgewood. The offense was in high gear as the Lady Trojans finished with 57 points on the night. Several girls contributed on the evening with four girls scoring in double figures. Tessa Bosman had 16, Jessica Dirkse had 12, Cassidy Block with 11 and Stephanie Kuiper had a double double with 10pts and 10 rebounds. The final score ended up 57-42.
The very next night, Timothy hosted Illiana in another conference game. Partaking in their third game in four nights, the coaching staff was not quite sure what to expect on this evening. However, the Lady Trojans were ready to roll. By posting a 19-11 advantage after one quarter of play, it was evident that scoring was going to be on the high side. Timothy took a 31-19 advantage into the half. The second half saw the Lady Trojans convert several Illiana turnovers into points. The final score wound up being 52-33.
Tessa Bosman again led the way with 14 points, Cassidy Block had 13 points, 6 reb, 6 steals and Kelli LeGrand finished with 10 points, 5 steals. Kaylie Pries - 4 pts, 3 assists, Shelly Ditchfield - 5 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and Stephanie Kuiper, Jessica Dirkse, Amber Scheidt each had 2 points.
Lisle Defeat the Lady Trojans
1/4/12
Lisle High School defeated Timothy this evening by a score of 37-25. It was not a good game offensively for the Lady Trojans as there were too many turnovers and open shots not falling. Lisle did a good job down the stretch with making some timely baskets to increase their lead.
Timothy looks to bounce back as they play back to back conference games on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game is away, while Saturday's game is home vs Illiana.
Thanks for the fan support tonight and we hope to see you again on Saturday.
Lady Trojans Lose a Tough One in Championship Game
The Webster's dictionary defines agony as an intense pain of the mind or body. Well, it may not have been intense, but it was painful as the Lady Trojans came up just short 43-42 in it's loss to St. Edward in the Championship game. If you were there to watch the game, you understand why it was so painful. TC had a 10 point lead in the second half and roughly an 8 point lead with 3:00 minutes to go. What transpired from there was tough to swallow. St. Ed's picked up their intensity and were able to force several turnovers which translated into points for them. Even as the time wound down, TC still had a two point lead with 1:05 left. Unable to convert some timely free throws, St. Ed's hit a huge three to go up by one. The last minute saw a few free throw made by St. Ed's and a couple of missed opportunities for the Lady Trojans. Jessica Dirkse hit a three at the buzzer, but with a four point deficit, it was kind of anti-climatic.
Timothy was led in scoring by All-Tournament selection, Cassidy Block. She poured in 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Tessa Bosman had another double double on the night with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jessica Dirkse knocked down three threes, to finish with 9 points and Stephanie Kuiper had 5 points while Shelly Ditchfield contributed 3 points.
The tournament saw a lot of good things for the Lady Trojans even with a stinging defeat in the finals. The overall good team play was encouraging to see and the ability to raise their level of play is something to build on going forward.
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the Lady Trojans over the Holiday Break. Your support was greatly appreciated.
IC Outplays TC
12/13/11
Immaculate Conception was the victor last night. IC played a good game and Timothy was unable to get anything going offensively. The Lady Trojans will look to learn from last night's game as they prepare for the Bulldogs of Riverside-Brookfield.
Jessica Dirkse found her shooting stroke as she poured in 11 points on the evening. Cassidy Block had 6 points, 8 rebounds and Shelly Ditchfield, Stephanie Kuiper and Tessa Bosman each contributed 2 points.
Next game is at Riverside-Brookfield on Thursday at 7:00pm.
Girls Varsity Wins the Consolation Championship
11/19/11
Timothy wrapped up tournament play by defeating Wheaton St. Francis this afternoon. Both teams were stuck in a classic dog fight with neither team leading by more than 4 points. The back and forth struggle was marred by plenty of fouls by each team. The teams combined to shoot 57 free throws! That's a lot of Free Throws. Unfortunately for the Lady Trojans, we did not make many of those attempts. But, thanks to some timely baskets and a few made free throws, Timothy pulled out the win 52-50. In winning the game, Timothy took home the Consolation Championship trophy...photos to come hopefully:-)
The Lady Trojans were led by two players with monster games. First off, Tessa Bosman dropped in 16 points and grabbed an astounding amount of rebounds....17 to be exact. Not to be outdone, Cassidy Block also dropped in 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. With the two double double efforts leading the way, Stephanie Kuiper contributed 7 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, Jessica Dirkse with 5 points, Kelli LeGrand 2 points, 3 assists and Kaylie Pries with 3 points.
Timothy is off for awhile, with their next game not until Nov. 29 vs. Fenton. The Timothy Christian Girls Basketball Program says thanks to all who came this afternoon and we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Lady Trojans bounce back
11/18/11
After suffering a season opening loss, the Lady Trojans were eager to get back on the court and show some improvement. They did not disappoint this evening as they rolled to a comfortable win over Indian Creek. After opening the 1st quarter with a blistering score of 17-2, Timothy never let Indian Creek back into the game. Timothy had a very balanced attack on the night, with several girls chipping in points to post the 51-13 win.
The Lady Trojans were led on the night by Cassidy Block. Cassidy posted her first ever triple double on the evening. She had 17 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals. With Cassidy setting the pace, Stephanie Kuiper dropped in 9 points, 2 rebounds, Tessa Bosman with 7 points, 4 rebounds, block and Kelli LeGrand also chipped in 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Not to be outdone, Brittany Scheidt (3 points, 3 assists) Amber Scheidt (2 points) Jessica Dirkse (2 points) and Ciara Hoddenbach (2 points) also helped out.
Timothy plays tomorrow afternoon at 1:30pm for the Consolation Championship. The game will be played at Aurora Christian HS. Hope to see you out there.
Trojans Drop Season Opener
11/15/11
The Lady Trojans saw their first game action this evening as they traveled to Illinois Math and Science Academy to play in the Hoop Happenings Tournament. Timothy squared off against the Lady Foxes from Yorkville. With it being the first game, sloppy stole the show for most of the evening. Timothy was never really able to establish a rhythm in the game, due to the unfortunate nature of too many turnovers.
Timothy tried to battle through uneven play, but Yorkville capitalized a little too much on the sloppy play. Give credit to the Lady Foxes as they played aggressive and pressured the Lady Trojans all night. The final was 40-23. Timothy was led in scoring by Tessa Bosman with 6 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals. Jessica Dirkse chipped in 5 points, 2 rebounds and Cassidy Block had 3 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals and a blocked shot. Stephanie Kuiper had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks.
The Lady Trojans play again on Friday night at 5:30pm. The game will be played at Aurora Christian High School.
