Ms. Joy Gort
Personal Profile
I was raised in a loving Christian family in Grand Rapids, MI. I have three wonderful sisters, a brother-in-law and two beautiful nieces. I came to Timothy Christian in 2008, after spending five years in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Living in the DR taught me many things, but most importantly to live simply, trust God’s sovereignty, and live a life that serves others. I enjoy spending my time with friends and family, being outside, and reading.
Professional Profile
I attended Trinity Christian College and graduated in 2003 with a major in elementary education. After graduating I followed my passion for missions and moved to the Dominican Republic. I spent the next five years teaching kindergarten at Santiago Christian School in Santiago, Dominican Republic. While in the DR, I was able to earn my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Bethel University (Minneapolis, MN). I also had the opportunity to develop Bible curriculum, coordinate and lead chapels, and serve on various committees. I loved every year in the DR, but through prayers and wide open doors, I followed God’s guiding to move back to the states. I taught kindergarten in the 2008-2009 school year, and now I’m excited to be teaching first grade. I am proud to be a part of the Timothy team and educate students to go out and transform the world.
Philosophical Profile
First grade is an important year in a child’s life. As a teacher of these young children, I am there to teach, guide, and lead them as they grow and learn. My prayer for my students is that they will desire to live their lives in a way that reflects God’s glory and honors Him.
