2011 HS Summer Reading Program

 

 

For the first book students must choose one of the following:

  • Beyond Belief: Finding the Strength to Come Back, by Josh Hamilton and Tim Keown

  • The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, by E. Lockhart

  • The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams

  • Murder on the Orient Express, by Agatha Christie

Students are to choose a book from this list that they have not read before. We require that students take the summer reading test on a book that has not been recorded as the “book of choice” for a previous year. Please note: the test will not be counted if the book has been listed by the student for a previous year.

Students will take a quiz on one of these titles on the first day of school: Wednesday, August 24th. The quiz will consist of 20-25 objective questions and will count as 5% of each student’s first quarter English grade.

 

For the second book students should read a book of their choice. We have three guidelines for the second book choice. The book must be:


                  1) parent-approved,

                  2) grade-level appropriate, and

                  3) a book that your son or daughter has not read before.


The evidence of completion for the second book is the verification form found on the back of this sheet. This form is due on the first day of school. Students should turn this form in when they take the test on the first book on Wednesday, August 24th.  The second book will count as 5% of each student’s first quarter English grade.  Verification forms will not be accepted after Friday, September 2nd.  PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY
