Mrs. Andra Hersey
Personal Profile
My name is Andra Hersey, and I am the social worker at the elementary and middle school at Timothy. Oliver and I have lived in Glen Ellyn for the last two years and spend a lot of our time here at school with students or at our church, Jericho Road in Wheaton. We also love traveling, hiking, and eating pizza. I grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan where I spent time with my family, playing sports, and watching Red Wing hockey games. I graduated from Calvin College in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in social work. It was at Calvin where I began to discover the gifts and passions God created in me to work with children and families. I spent time studying and volunteering with Young Life, a Christian outreach for middle school and high school students. I also spent many summers working at Spring Hill camp and Young Life camps in Michigan. In 2005, I married Oliver Hersey, whom accepted a position at Timothy Christian High School teaching Algebra and Geometry. We moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois and quickly became a part of the Timothy community
Professional Profile
I loved working with children and families so much that after graduating from Calvin, I went on staff with Young Life in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. I worked with families and volunteers to build relationships with students and teach them about what it means to walk with Jesus Christ. It was an amazing experience and an unforgettable journey with God. I went back to school for my Masters in Social Work and a certification to work in a school in Illinois. I spent free time substitute teaching in Timothy’s middle and high school. During this time I fell even more in love with the staff and families here. At Aurora University and East Aurora School District, I learned about the value and joy of providing support to children at school to enhance academic success. After graduating in May of 2007, I was pleased to accept the invitation to officially join the Timothy team in providing Christ centered education with excellence.
Philosophical Profile
I am continually amazed by the love God has for his children and His desire to use them to bring restoration to His world. God has given me the gift of walking beside children in their journey here at Timothy. I believe that becoming an academically prepared disciple of Christ includes both social and emotional health. Most students benefit from having someone connecting with them at school about challenges they are facing. I meet with children to talk about their concerns such as friendship, grief, anxiety, homework and other things that can create challenges to academic success. After they talk to someone about these things, they can focus on learning, helping them to be more successful at school. I thank God for the gift of walking beside your children in their journey here at Timothy.
