Frosh/Soph Boys Soccer - Fall 2007

Season Record - 8-6-1 (1-3 in conference)

Season Summary by Coach Ahlenius
One word can sum up the season for me, "AMAZING", what a first season for coaching at Timothy for me. I am very impressed by the effort and skills of the young men that I had the privilege to coach this fall. When I first came on board as the JV coach for Timothy one week prior to tryouts, I never would have expected to see such improvement over a short season that these young men have made. From personal physical fitness improvements, to soccer skill and tactics improvements. The Trojan JV team has a lot to be proud of, first a winning season record. Next year we will strive to do better in our conference record. I look forward to continuing the work with the returning boys to the team next year and the incoming players as well from the 8th grade team.

For those players returning and who will be trying out next year, please remember to continue your physical fitness and soccer skills work in the off season.

Saturday, October 13th - Away vs. University High School

- L - 4-1

The last game of the year was an unfortunate loss. However, the team played well with having a lineup shift. Taylor Hoogendorrn had the lone goal from about 50 yards out, right to the far post. An amazing shot. The field was a tough field to play on, very rocky and bumpy, however, the team played well, but couldn't secure a victory. The Trojans look forward to next season for increasing our skills and record.

Wednesday, October 3rd - Home vs. The Latin School - W - 5-0 This game was one of the best games for the Trojans. Very well played as a team offensively and defensively. The Trojan boys came out and scored very quickly, allowing our confidence to settle in for the rest of the game. Blake Englesman had 5 saves to secure the shutout for Timothy. Corey Phillip had 3 goals, Nathan Middel, Mike Pizzello and Jon Workman all had one goal. Assists for this game were contributed by Kevin Hansberger, Nathan Middel, and Mike Pizzello.

Current Record: 7-5-1 (2-2 in conference)

Monday, October 1 - Home vs. Fenwick - L - 4-2

This was a very interesting game.  A team that we were at least
evenly skilled with came to Timothy, and let us play above their
level for the first half.  However the tables turned in the second
half.  Fenwick came out with a better desire to win then Timothy.
Timothy forwards had a tough time in the first half with the
offensive trap that the Fenwick defense was playing, however after a
talk at half time with Coach Gesch, we had a new plan of attack for
defeating the offsides trap play.

Saturday, September 29 - Away vs. Addison Trail - L - 3-2

The Trojans came out against the Addison team with the desire to
win.  After having the first point scored, and then tied, and then
another goal and another goal by Addison to tie it was an all out
fight for the win.  At the end, the Addison Trail forwards beat the
Timothy defenders to make the winning goal.

This game was one that was well played, and the defense did gather
together more for our touch-tight coverage, which is very efficient
in re-establishing control of the ball, and playing soccer well.

Thursday, September 27 - Home vs. St. Laurence - W - 5-0

What an improvement the team has made in it's defense. With a great start to our game, the Trojans, had a solid defense in place allowing only 3 shots total in the game on our keepers. Blake Englesman had a great first half and David Kuenzie was able to get in for some game experience on the second half. With several well scored goals, the Trojans had a beautiful goal off a corner which was headed in. Kudos go out to all players yesterday, as everyone was able to play in this game. We are solidifying together and having the desire to play our best when we come out. We look forward to our game at Addison Trail on Saturday.

Wed., September 26 - Away vs. Wheaton Academy - L - 5-2

With the team coming out strong for the first half, defensively we had some trouble with the speed of the Wheaton players. With several good attacks on the offensive side, we were unable to get shots off that weren't close to the keeper. Coming out in the second half with more determination and a better mindset as to defensively playing "touch-tight" our team greatly improved defensively, and the team got 2 goals. One from Mike Pizello, off a dead kick, and Corey Phillip's had the final goal at the buzzer. A great effort was put forth by the Trojans and we look forward to our home game tomorrow.

September 20th - Away vs. Wheaton St. Francis - W - 2-1

The team came out with a desire to win, after the loss to Chicago Christian. With a hot sun to play under, the Trojans were tested physically as well during this game. Again, David Kuenzi came out with another goal. His hard drive and running on the field contribute to the goals that he has scored during this season. Jon Workman had the other goal for the night. Blake Englesman had 7 saves in net, however one did squirt out of his arms and into the net
to allow the one lone goal of the night for Wheaton St. Francis.
With the second half and the Trojans leading, our defense was tested heavily as Wheaton St. Francis had a large determintation to try and win the game. Our defense held strong and we proceed to win the game. We look forward to the Wheaton Academy game next week on Wednesday.

September 18th - Home vs. Chicago Christian - L - 3-2

The Trojans came out with determination after last night's win against Homewood-Flossmoor. With a tie in the game, Corey Phillip had the pull ahead goal, which allowed the Trojans to believe that they were to win. However, the Chicago Christian team pulled up determination and proceed to score 2 more goals against Timothy in the end of the second half. With 17 shots on goal, Timothy just needed to place the ball into the back of the net. Corey Phillip had both goals for the night. We look forward to our next game against Wheaton St. Francis on Thursday.

September 17th - Away vs. Homewood-Flossmoor - W - 4-1

The Trojan boys came out to play today with a serious game face.
With a well fought battle, the Timothy Trojans took home the win with David Kuenzi having a hat trick for the game, and Jon Workman with the other goal. Assists were made by Nathan Middel, Corey Phillip, and Mike Pizzello. Brad Wierenga put up a good fight at defense, along with John Bowman, Kyle Anderson and Mike Pizzello. Blake Englesman also added to the win with 5 saves and only allowing 1 goal to be scored against Timothy.

September 13th - Away vs. Chicago Hope Academy - W - 5-4

The JV team came ready to play today and was met by a team who was also ready to play. Chicago Hope surprised us with their soft touches on the ball and runs by offense that kept the Trojan defense on their toes. With an amazing display of athleticism, Corey Phillips, had 4 assists and 1 goal, the one goal was a throw in from the right side, which the goalie touched. What a way to obtain a goal for Timothy. We had 2 other goals off of his throw ins. Jon Workman, Mike Pizzello, Nathan Middel and Kevin Hansberger all attributed goals as well.

With the Trojans playing much more physically for the ball, we had possession of it for a good portion of the game. We look forward to continuing playing together, and will be Away at Homewood-Flossmoor on Monday.

September 11 - Away vs. Illiana - L - 4-2

The JV team came out a bit flat again today, with less hustle then
typical.  Illiana had better control of the ball then the Trojans,
and were playing together more then we were.  At the half, with a
strategic decision to have one more forward play more like a central
midfielder, the Trojans came out with more motivation and desire then
the first half.  With the score being 4-2 with about 10 minutes left,
the Trojan boys played hard and had several opportunities to score,
but they were unable to find the back of the net.

Our next game is Thursday Away at Chicago Hope Academy.

September 8th - vs. Notre Dame: W - 6-0

What a beautiful day for soccer. With slight delay in starting the game while waiting for Notre Dame HS. The Trojans had a fun warmup experience with the chance to play a bit more World Cup with each
other. Once Notre Dame arrived, the Trojans were eager to play.
With a much improved enthusiasm and energy, they attacked the field with great offensive and defensive playing.

The goals for the day were scored by: David Kuenzi (1), Corey Phillip (1), Mike Pizzello (2), and Jon Workman (2).
The assists for the day were by: Kyle Anderson (1), and Blake Englesman (1).

David Kuenzi had an amazing diving header, that unfortunately did not go in, as well as several other header attempts on crosses. Peter Schemper also had a great volley shot attempt, that just went to the outside of the post. Jon Workman was able to connect with Mike Pizzello for a header goal off a corner kick, a well executed play.

Overall, the Trojans played a very good game, we look forward to our first away game next Tuesday at Illiana, starting at 4:30pm.

August 30 - vs. Marmion Academy - T-2-2

Today's game was played a bit flat footed for the Trojans.  With a lot of shots on goal, but none being completed in the first half, we started the second half with a little less pep then normal.  Into the second half, the Trojans were scored against bringing the game to 1-0.  After that goal, the boys pulled up their desire and scored 2 goals, so that the score was now 2-1 Timothy.
With a free kick on the top of the 18 yard line for the opposing team, they scored, bringing the game to a tie of 2-2 for the final score.  The Trojan JV team looks forward to another game on  Wednesday next week against University High School.

August 28 - vs. Chicago Hope Academy August - W-7-3

The second home game of the season was a great success for the JV team, as they played well together on another hot day.  With a victory of 7-3 the JV team had excellent shots to bring home the victory.  Ben Cook (1 goal), Kevin Hansberger (1 goal), Jon Workman (1 goal) and 2 goals for both Mike Pizzello and Corey Phillip.  Assists for the day were made by, Nathan Middel, Corey Phillip and Jon Workman.

Keeper Blake Englesman had 8 great saves and the defense solidified more in the second half.  With our mid-field playing a wonderful game as well, I commend the efforts of all our mid-fielders for their continued effort and endurance for running all game.

The JV team is starting to play very well together.  We look forward to our next game at Home again on Thursday versus Marmion at 5:00pm.

Away vs. Elk Grove Village

Saturday, August 25 @ 10:00am

Game has been cancelled due to rain.  Any rescheduling news will be posted here.

August 22 - vs. Westminster Christian - W-5-2

Despite a hot day, the Timothy Trojans JV team played an excellent match. With goals scored by, Kevin Hansberger, Jon Workman, Mike Pizello, and Corey Phillip, it was a good victory over Westminister Christian. Solid defense and excellent goalkeeping by Blake Englesman, held the score to a final 5-2 victory. This was a great way to open the fall soccer season, and we look forward to many more victories along the way.
