Ms. Laura Jackson

Personal Profile:

I was born and raised in the city of the Original Home to the Chicago Bears, also known as Decatur, Illinois.  I grew up in a loving, Christian home with my parents, older sister, and twin brother.  My parents still live in Decatur, my sister and her husband live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and my brother attends graduate school in Monterey, CaliforniaDespite the distance, I am blessed that my family still plays a large role in my life.  I first heard of Timothy Christian when I was in high school and ran against the Lady Trojans at the state track and cross country meets.   When I continued my education at Calvin College, I heard about Timothy’s prestigious reputation from several friends and roommates who were Timothy Alumni.   I am very excited to become part of the Timothy staff and community!  In my free time, I enjoy playing and watching sports, specifically basketball (Go Illini!) and football (Bears), cooking new recipes, reading, traveling, and am currently training for my second marathon.

Professional Profile:

I graduated from Calvin College in 2009 with my certification in both Special Education and Elementary Education.  God sent one of my greatest challenges in my first teaching job at SPEED #802 in Chicago Heights.  I taught 2nd and 3rd grade severely impaired students and worked diligently with paraprofessionals, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech therapists to ensure the students received the best education possible in my classroom.  God blessed me thoroughly with my first job and I will always be grateful for the experience.

Philosophy Profile:

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

Since hearing this verse every morning when I was in middle school, it has proven its relevance to my life.  As an educator, I know that every classroom is filled with students who learn differently and at different paces.   However, I believe that God has a plan for each student and it is my role to reach all of the students and to help them succeed, not only academically, but also spiritually, socially, and emotionally.  This role brings its own challenges God did not create us all to be the same; He created us each with our own unique gifts, talents, and abilities.   I believe everyone has the ability to learn and succeed.  I feel that God has called me to help young adults discover, be encouraged, and become confident in the persons God created them to be.  I look forward to the challenges and opportunities before me.
