Life in Kindergarten
The kindergarten program at Timothy fosters each child’s spiritual, social, emotional, and academic growth. Kindergarten children learn through classroom experiences that actively engage the learner in exploring a variety of topics in a safe and nurturing environment.
Kindergarten nurtures the spiritual development of young children by emphasizing God’s love for his people and creation. Kindergarten is a place where children develop love and acceptance of others.
Kindergarten children love to tell stories and share what they know about the world. The classroom is full of books, poems, predictable charts, signs, posters, and magazines. The teacher uses these materials to introduce and teach the skills necessary for reading and writing. The letters and sounds are taught as isolated units and reinforced in our thematic units.
The kindergarten classroom is filled with many opportunities to develop a sense of number. Using a variety of objects and activities, the children practice counting, estimating, patterning, problem-solving, and basic addition and subtraction.
Kindergarten is an important time to build a child’s curiosity and love of learning and to instill in them a positive feeling about themselves and school.
“Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth.”
Psalm 100:1
