Mr. Aaron Lindloff

Personal

Husband and father. That seems to be my identity these days. Catherine and I are blessed with three smart, beautiful, and evenly spaced children: Sylvia (5) the ballerina, Finn (3) the swashbuckler, and Stella (1) the rubber ball with appendages. I used to write poems with angst and nuance. Now I make up bedtime stories about squirrels and deer. When they fall asleep, my wife and I watch an artsy film or look at houses online. As a family we thank God every day for our life together and, aside from HGTV, we are abundantly happy.

Professional

After receiving a B.A. in English & Bible (’99) from Northwestern College, MN, I served two years as the youth pastor of my hometown church in Manitowoc, WI. Then God directed me to Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where I finished an M.A. in Christian Thought (’04). I taught computer skills to elementary children (Highland Park, IL) and English to teens with behavior disorders (Zion, IL), until coming to Timothy in 2007. I’m so grateful to be teaching my two favorite subjects, theology and literature (in no particular order).

Philosophical

Hemingway claimed that most people don’t listen. I suppose he thought he did, and that’s how he wrote such gripping characters. I try to listen to my students, so that I can reflect their thoughts back to them, like a good writer, and then persuade them to reevaluate those ideas. Bradbury said that “good writers touch life often.” As a teacher of novels and doctrines, I cannot leave students with a mere comprehension of the subject matter. They have to examine their hearts in the process, ask themselves how they should then live. It’s a work of the Spirit, really. Words are just words, unless they transform us, unless they take on flesh.
