Thomas Lubben
Christian education has been a vital part of my upbringing and has deeply shaped my perspective on the world. Having attended Roseland Christian School, Chicago Southwest Christian School, Chicago Christian High School and Calvin College, I have experienced firsthand the importance of learning from the perspective that this is our Father’s world and his hand is seen in all aspects of his creation. My mom taught at Roseland Christian School for years and my dad attended Timothy Christian Grammar School back when it was located in Cicero. I am so grateful for the sacrifices made by my parents and their parents in the name of Christian education and I am thankful to be able to send my child to Timothy. The impact this gifted faculty and staff has had on our daughter has been profound and I am honored and humbled at the opportunity to serve the school.
I hope to bring to the Board my commitment to academic excellence in Christian education. Recognizing that providing a Christian education is a significant commitment, I share the belief of other Board members that we must ensure our children’s education meets the highest standards. I have served on and worked with many Boards of Directors and have seen the difference made by those who are committed to excellence. From my exposure to various Timothy Board members, it is clear to me this commitment abounds at Timothy and I hope be able to live up to these standards. When I was a kid, we use to sing “they will know we are Christians by our love”. I believe it is so important to let the world know that we are different and it is evidenced by our love for God and for one another. I hope that in my work for the Board, this will shine through as my guiding principle.
I recognize that the job of a Christian school teacher and staff member is not easy, particularly in this cynical and often corrupt world. I think it is imperative that Board members support the work of the faculty and staff by providing guidance, support and encouragement in their mission to develop academically prepared Christian disciples. It truly is a great calling to help develop others who will bring salt and light to the world.
Upon graduating from Calvin College in 1981, I attended the University of Illinois College of Law where I received my law degree in 1984. For the past 11 years I have been employed as an attorney in the corporate legal department of BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois where my current title is Vice President, Corporate Secretary. I currently serve on the Boards of the Illinois Health Insurance Guaranty Association, the Illinois HMO Guaranty Association, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and Planites Credit Union. I am married to Sue and we have one daughter, Emma, who is currently in fourth grade at Timothy. We live in Elmhurst and attend Christ Church of Oak Brook.
