Rebecca Caudill Pizza Party

There’s nothing like digging into a good book and a good pizza!  The 70 attendees at the library-hosted Caudill Pizza party on Friday, March 12, got to do both!

Each year, students in grades 4-8 who read twelve of the books nominated for the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers Book Award are invited to this prestigious (and yummy!) event.   Those who read 16 books also get to enjoy ice cream. If they read 20 books, they have the privilege of accompanying Mrs. Stein to a bookstore to help pick out books for the library.

At the pizza party, Mrs. Stein announces the titles for the next year, as well as the winner of the yearly Rebecca Caudill Award, which is voted on by students around the state.  This year’s winner was  All the Lovely Bad Ones by Mary Downing Hahn.   Ironically, our librarians had decided that this title was not appropriate for the Timothy Christian library.  However, the announcement did open up good dialogue between the students and librarians about making reading choices as Christians, for ourselves and for the library.

All in all, it was a fun time of fellowship, literature, and of course, pizza!
