Accelerated Reading Choices Expand....Again!

Accelerated Reader Alert!  Reading choices are being expanded even further in the K-8 Library !

When students choose to read books that are not part of the Accelerated Reader test database, they can now receive credit in the form of points that will apply to their Accelerated Reader point total.  This will be a great benefit for students when they read Christian literature, which is often not included in the Accelerated Reader test database.

The Accelerated Reader program is embedded in our curriculum and in the reading incentives that take place in our library.  The teachers and librarians recognize the connection between personal choice and the enjoyment of reading, and they want to empower students to make their reading choices without being controlled by the availability of an Accelerated Reader test.

When a student wants to receive credit for a non-AR book, he/she should do the following:

1.   See Mrs. Stein to determine if a test may become available soon.

2.   Decide between these options:

·     Write an AR test for the book and receive bonus points for doing so.  Instructions for writing a test must be obtained from Mrs. Stein, and a copy of the book must be turned in with the test.

·     Write a brief book report with parent verification and be awarded AR points for doing so.  The book report form can be obtained from Mrs. Stein or is available on-line, by clicking here.  A copy of the book must also be turned in so that reading level and point value can be determined.

The librarians strive to build a library collection that meets the needs and interests of students, and they always welcome book suggestions from students.  The library is open to students from 8:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
