Middle School Spelling Bee

If you had to choose four words to best describe this year's Middle School Spelling Bee, "fight to the finish" would probably be accurate.

Twenty students participated including the winner and runner up of the Elementary School Bee, which had been held earlier this week. This Bee followed the same guidelines as the ES Bee, governed by the SCRIPPS National Spelling Bee. There is no room for mistakes as one misspelled letter and the student is out of the competition.

In the first round, the student introduced themselves and spelled a word. Then, it was "game on!" By round 7, only five students remained. One student was eliminated for the next three rounds, leaving two contestants for round 10.

The two remaining gentleman went head to head for approximately fifteen minutes. The judges decided to jump ahead to a more difficult catergory or, as Mrs. Stein later said, "We would have been there all afternoon." In the end, Jack Miller (7th grade) was champion with Logan Byrne (7th grade) as runner up.

Jack will now go on to represent Timothy Christian Schools in the Private School Regionals held on February 11 at Timothy Christian Schools. Congratulations to Jack, Logan and all our participants!
