Varsity Volleyball Team Finish 1st in AC Tournament

9/17/11

Timothy Christian went undefeated on Saturday, not losing a single set all day, to earn a 1st place finish at the Aurora Christian tournament.  In the round robin format, the Trojans started off the day with Hinckley-Big Rock (25-16, 25-18).  Jordan Smits (10 kills/22 attempts/0 errors) and Linnea Venhousen (5 kills/10 attempts/0 errors) were very efficient at the net behind the hands of Jenna Lodewyk (22 assists).

The second match against Wilmington (25-23, 25-19) started off slow at first, when TC went on a 6-0 run behind the serving hand of Makenzie Vos to get back in the game.  With 5 different ties late in the game, the Trojans pulled out the last two points to take set 1.  TC had another 7-0 run in set 2, this time behind Jenna Lodewyk's serves to take a decisive lead for the match victory.  In this win, Cassidy Block provided 13 digs, Jordan Smits got 10 digs, and Jenna Lodewyk put up 23 assists.

For the second time this season, the Trojans faced Aurora Christian (25-12, 25-15) for match #3.  In both sets, TC took an early lead that they never gave up.  In this win, Timothy had a very balanced attack at the net, set up behind Cassidy Block (13 digs) and Kaylie Pries (10 digs) in the back row.  Hanna Markewycz also served 3 aces.

In the fourth match against Judah Christian (25-14, 25-9), Kaylie Pries led the Trojans with 8 kills and 6 digs, and Makenzie Vos and Kacie Stoll each had 4 kills.  And to finish off the day, TC defeated Proviso West (25-21, 25-15), with Bridgitt Buikema (6 kills), Kacie Stoll (4 kills), and Hanna Markewycz (16 digs) leading the way.

Varsity Soccer Continues Their Winning Ways

9/17/11

In another complete game effort, the Trojans of Timothy Christian defeated the Sentinels of Westmont High School by a final score of 5-0. It was the team's fourth straight win and fourth straight shut-out. Timothy's season record climbs to 7-4 (2-0 MSC).

Senior forward Nick Groenewold's recovery from a pre-season injury continued in a big way as he contributed to every goal scored- 2 goals and 3 assists. Sophomore call-up Wes Ditchfield started the scoring for Timothy with a beautiful finish, Junior captain Justin Rink added a tally with an outstanding midfield maneuver and long-range blast, and senior Matt Robinson added a goal and two assists to round out the scoring for the Trojans.

Timothy continues to improve team possession and finishing. Proving the old adage that "the other team can't score when they don't have the ball," Timothy controlled the flow of play for the vast majority of the game and limited the Sentinel chances to only a couple.

Junior goalie Danny Leach finished his fourth straight shut-out with a pair of saves. Major credit again goes to defenders Matt De Jong, Devon Loerop, and Kurt Munson in keeping the opposition scoreless.

Up Next for Timothy:
A big week of Metro Suburban Conference challenges: home against Fenton High School on Tuesday Night and an away game Thursday night at Riverside-Brookfield. These two games will go a long way in telling the conference story for the Trojan's 2011 season.
