ES Geography Bee
Fifteen students took the stage on December 6 for the annual Geography Bee, held in the Huizenga auditorium. All students in grades 4th-6th took a written test and the top qualifiers earned the chance to compete. This year's participants were: Seth Buikema, Jillian Bury, Will DeMey, Sandro Grandolfo, Austin Hoogdendoorn, Lindsay Mahler, Ty Merrick, Jake Mitrius, Emily Penning, Olivia Schuringa, Sissy Snella, Stephania Stravropoulos, Jack VanderMolen, James Vlcek and Nathaniel Yurschak,
The Geo Bee tests the students' knowledge of U.S. States, U.S. Physical Geography and World Geography. A student is eliminated after missing two questions. It took 10 rounds to whittle it down to our final three...Will, Emily and Nathaniel. In Round 10, both Emily and Nathaniel missed a question, assuring Will a spot in the Championship Round. Emily answered her next question correctly, securing her a place in the Championship. Round 11 consisted of three questions where Will emerged as our ES Geo Bee Champ and Emily as Runner-Up. Both of these contestants will advance to the Middle School Geo Bee, held next Tuesday at 1:30 in the Huizenga Auditorium.
Congratulations to Will, Emily and all our participants!
