HS Muscians Earn IMEA Honors

On October 11, over 900 high school musicians arrived at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park for the annual Illinois Music Educator’s Association (IMEA) District 1 Honors ensemble auditions. District 1 is the area from the Indiana border as far west as Plainfield Illinois and from Bensenville as far south as Manteno. Students were vying for coveted spots in the honors band,  honors choir, honors jazz band and honors orchestra.

The senior  level auditions are the road to All-State in January. The audition is difficult with the top  students in each audition room selected to participate at the district level.  In December, students will be notified if they scored high enough to attend the All-State honors festival. Students audition on excerpts of music to be performed at the honors concert, scales, and other technical exercises.

Congratulations to the following high school students selected for the IMEA District 1 Ensembles:

Honors Band: Robert Capozzoli (Saxophone), 9th grade;

Honors Choir: Alex Johnson  (Tenor 2), 11th grade; Betsy McKay (Alto 1), 12th grade;

Honors Orchestra: Riley DeHaan (Cello), 10th grade; John Hoheisel (Violin), 10th Grade; Elena Denny (Cello), 12th grade.

These students will work with renowned conductors at the IMEA District 1 Senior Honors Festival on Saturday, November 19thh at Downers Grove South High School in Downers Grove.  The day ends with a concert of all of the honors ensembles.
