Elementary School Spelling Bee

On Wednesday, January 23 the auditorium was filled with students and parents for the 2008 Elementary School Spelling Bee!  After an explanation of the rules and a practice round, the Bee began with twenty-two participants.  The spellers were made up of one 4th grader, nine 5th graders and twelve 6th graders.

One by one they were eliminated with one round taking out six students, leaving eight finalists.  The next round, took out five contestants.  The remaining three went five intense rounds with none of them missing a letter.  Then, there was a misspelled word, bringing it down to two.  In the end, 6th grader Arie Venema was champion and 5th grader David Langkamp was Runner Up.   Arie will go on to represent Timothy, along with MS Champ Kaylie Pries, in the DuPage County Private School Spelling Bee held here at Timothy on Wednesday, February 6 at 9:15 am.  Congratulations to all the participants!
