Pennies for Penicillin
In keeping with this year's theme, "This is My Father's World," one way to "reclaim" God's world for His good it to provide for the needs of others around the world.
On Monday, March 3, the 2nd graders welcomed Ena Vandermolen to their classroom to do just that. Ena is a Wycliffe Bible translator in the Phillipines among the Obo Manaoba people who has returned to the area for a furlough. Ms. Vandermolen spoke to the students about her work in the Phillipines.
She showed them photos, talked about the culture, and shared some of her favorite native fruits. She brought along some traditional clothes and some of the students had the chance to model fashion from the Phillipines. The students also enjoyed seeing some of the large insects she had brought along. She talked about what kind of medical care is available for the Obo Manobo people
During the months of March and April, the 2nd grade classes will be collecting pennies (and coins) to be used for buying pencillin or any over-the-counter medicines that are helpful to the Obo Manobo people. Our goal is to raise $400 for the needs of these people. The students are encouraged to be involving in raising the money by doing a few chores around the house.
