Mr. Doug Pelt

Personal Profile

I am truly blessed to be a part of such a strong music program here at Timothy Christian! I am a native of Illinois and grew up in the Oak Lawn area. I married my wife Barbara in 2004, and we live in scenic Streamwood, Illinois. We both attend Grace Lutheran Church in Streamwood where I serve as Music Minister and she teaches Sunday Kids Club. Barb and I enjoy eating at good restaurants, traveling together, and watching Food Network. In addition to teaching and performing music, I enjoy photography, cooking, and web design.

Professional Profile

I attended NIU where I studied music and performed in many ensembles, including Wind Symphony, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, Steel Band, and a World Music Ensemble. I graduated with honors in 2001 and began my teaching career. My first position was teaching in New Lenox, where my duties included 5th and 6th grade bands, pep band, and junior high marching band. After three years, I got married and relocated to the Northwest suburbs. I taught in Deerfield for four years in a position similar to my experience in New Lenox. While I have had wonderful experiences learning and teaching in public schools, I am very excited to be a part of the Timothy Christian family.

Philosophical Profile

Music is an integral part of everyone’s life, from the casual consumer to the professional performer. Therefore, music education is an essential part of any well-rounded curriculum. In music classes, students should learn about the elements of music and experience the strong emotions music creates. In rehearsals, mutual respect fosters the pursuit of musical excellence. It is my hope and prayer that I will cultivate a positive and loving atmosphere in my classes, creating memories that last a lifetime.
