Picture Lady Program

Forty years ago, back in 1970, the Cleome Friendship Club launched the first Picture Lady Program which was patterned after guidelines provided by the Chicago Art Institute. Ardythe Tiesenga has been the coordinator of this Kindergarten through 6th grade program all these years.
Kindergarten through 6th grade students participate in the Picture Lady Program. Every month, each class is introduced to an artist and representative work by a picture lady. The fifth and sixth graders annually tour the Art Institute as part of this enrichment program.
Funding of this program is private and no school funds are used, although donations are accepted. We have a large collection of paintings and have helped three other schools start their own "Picture Lady" programs. The excitement generated by the interaction of the students and Picture Ladies fuels our desire to prepare for each month's presentation and discover new ways to communicate our love of art. All materials selected are appropriate for use in a Christian School.
Presentations are in the Elementary School classrooms from 9:30 am-9:50 am usually on the 2nd Friday of each month.
