Mrs. Rebekah Prager

Personal Profile

I was born and raised in a family of six in Southern California. When I was eight years old, I decided to follow Christ and be baptized.  Since that day I have learned more of what it means to be a sojourner on the journey to my true home.  I have a passion for other cultures and people groups and have had the opportunity to study and do missions work in different places around the world.  I attended Westmont College in Santa Barbara and during my time there, I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad two different semesters in Spain and Egypt. After graduation I went on to earn my teaching credential with the hope of influencing young people for Christ.  My first two years of teaching were spent at a bilingual Christian school in Guadalajara, Mexico.  While I was there I met and later married my husband Eric, who is a native of Wisconsin. We spent the past year teaching at a Christian school in San Diego, and just recently we have moved to Chicago where my husband has accepted an assistant baseball coach position at Trinity International University. I trusted that God would provide me with the right job, and he has done that and more with my opportunity to teach Spanish here at Timothy Christian.

Professional Profile

I had the privilege of attending Westmont College  where I earned a BA in International History and Spanish.  Upon graduating, I decided to go on to earn my teaching credential in secondary education at California State University in San Bernardino. My first two years of teaching were spent at the Lincoln School in Guadalajara, Mexico. There I taught history in English to Mexican nationals. Last year, I spent teaching Spanish and history at Calvary Christian Academy in San Diego, California. Currently, I am in my fourth year of teaching, and I teach primarily second year Spanish.

Philosophical Profile

As a Spanish teacher at Timothy, I want to first and foremost emphasize why we learn different languages, it’s not just to earn class credits, but it a valuable tool for reaching others for Christ. I hope to create a classroom where the diversity that God has created expressed through the different cultures peoples and languages is celebrated and respected. I hope to impress upon my students that learning Spanish is not only an important tool to be used on foreign soil, but it can be used in our own communities. It can help build bridges for sharing the gospel with others. The single most important way to reach other cultures is through language, and to teach young people another language is to teach them also to respect and care for the peoples who speak that language. For me, the focus for learning Spanish is missions, both locally and internationally, and I hope to communicate this clearly to my students.
