Mrs. Ann Raley

Personal Profile
Originally from Muskegon, Michigan, I moved to Illinois when I was hired as a Timothy Christian High School teacher in 1979. My family has lived in Addison since 1987. My husband and I are long- time members of Yorkfield Presbyterian Church in Elmhurst. Hobbies include reading, yard work, and trying out new recipes.
Professional Profile
I am a graduate of Hope College, Ohio State University, and Concordia University with a bachelor’s degree in German and master’s degrees in German Literature and Curriculum and Instruction. Through a variety of contacts that, with hindsight, I realize was part of God’s plan, I found myself at Timothy Christian High School. I have been teaching continuously since 1979, although my job description has changed several times over the years. Currently I serve as a part time German teacher, high school registrar/academic counselor, and K-12 admissions counselor. My work responsibilities allows me to interact with students, their parents, and potential new families along with teachers and administrators—a variety which I thoroughly enjoy.
Philosophical Profile
Proverbs 2 has special meaning for me as I look for guidance about the kind of teacher God would have me to be. Although I’ve been professionally trained to teach German and English, I am aware that, even more importantly, I am a role model to my students. I rely very much on the promise in verses 1-5: “...[I]f you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” It is my hope and prayer that my students and I can together explore how our Christian walk influences our understanding of God’s creation in culture, language, and literature. I try to model that expectation in the way I approach instruction and classroom interaction.
