Mrs. Megan Rietema
Personal Profile
Hi, my name is Megan Rietema and I feel very blessed to be teaching at Timothy Christian. I grew up in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and attended the Sheboygan Christian Schools before heading to Calvin College. I met my husband, Paul, at Calvin, and we got married during the summer of 2007. He was in the middle of law school at this time, so we started our lives together in Cambridge, Massachusetts, while he finished school. After his graduation, we moved to Jackson, Mississippi, for one year while Paul completed a clerkship. We now live in Chicago and are both glad to be back closer to family. The Midwest definitely feels like home to me! Outside of school, I enjoy being active, playing volleyball and tennis, hiking, skiing, and spending time with friends and family!
Professional Profile
I graduated from Calvin College in December 2006 with a B.A. in Special Education and Elementary Education. After moving to Massachusetts I started my teaching career at Cotting School. While at Cotting, I was a high school special education teacher for two years before moving to Mississippi. In Mississippi, I was a 3rd-5th grade resource special education teacher for the Madison County Public Schools. God was good and blessed me with a job for one year in Mississippi that would help prepare me for my current position as the 4th-6th grade Discovery Center teacher at Timothy. I am also currently working on my Master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. It has been a joy getting back into the classroom (as a student) and challenging myself to better my teaching for all students.
Philosophical Profile
God has created and blessed each of us with different styles of learning, strengths, and interests. As a teacher, I feel God has called me to help each student discover and learn more about him or herself through academic learning, appropriate social interactions, and spiritual growth. Having the opportunity to openly discuss God’s grace and love with my students is very exciting to me. Over the year, I hope my students will see God’s love through me and their classmates as they discover themselves in my classroom.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ~ Jeremiah 29:11
