Ms. Kim Slotman
Personal Profile:
I spent most of my recent years living in Cedar Grove, WI with my family. My dad is a pastor of the RCA which means we moved around a little while I grew up. I was born in Florida, but we soon moved to Indiana which was followed by Illinois (by the Mississippi River, not Chicago area), and we ended up in Wisconsin for the past nine years. I have an older brother and new sister-in-law as well as younger sisters who are twins. As I entered Hope College my freshman year, I was a third generation student after my grandma and both parents. I was also blessed to spend two years on campus with my older brother and sister-in-law as well as my senior year with my sisters (current sophomores). You could say Hope is a family thing for us.
Professional Profile:
While at Hope College I was able to experience many aspects of education as well as participate in different classroom placements. For the past four years I have spent much of my time in various classrooms. This past year as a senior, I was blessed with the opportunity to do my pre-professional student teaching at Zeeland Christian School in a 6th grade classroom. The main subject responsibility for me was Math, Bible, and Social Studies. Along with absorbing an immense amount of knowledge about Christian education, I was privileged with the opportunity to coach 7th grade girl’s basketball during this semester. This current year at Timothy is my first year as a professional educator. I feel blessed beyond belief with this place God chose for me and look forward to everything that comes with a first year of teaching!
Philosophical Profile:
Throughout my educational experiences, I discovered my passion for education is based in the idea of teaching to the whole child and is not solely driven by content. Personally I believe that an educator has a much larger job in the forming of each student as an individual person than simply increasing content knowledge. The Lord has blessed each child of His with gifts, and it would be a shame to see them go to waste. I believe a classroom is a unique community God hand picks for a purpose. Each student that walks through my doors is seen as part of that unique setting. I love nothing more than being in that community and being able to share my faith and passion for Christ through every subject. Through Christian instruction, students are able to flourish not only in content areas but also in their life walk with Christ.
