The week of March 3, 2008
A weekly email newsletter from Timothy Christian Schools to keep you informed, involved and invited.
Our Mission: “Serving God and His people, Timothy Christian Schools develops academically prepared Christian disciples who embrace Christ’s call to transform the world.”
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:
“The circumstances of our lives are another medium of God’s communication with us. God opens some doors and closes others . . . Through the wisdom of our bodies, God tells us to slow down or reorder our priorities. The happy coincidences and frustrating impasses of daily life are laden with messages. Patient listening and the grace of the Spirit are the decoding devices of prayer. It is a good habit to ask, What is God saying to me in this situation? Listening to our lives is part of prayer.” - Marjorie J. Thompson in “Soul Feast”

MOCK TRIAL TEAM FINISHES THIRD IN STATE COMPETITION
This past weekend, the Timothy Mock Trial team continued their dynasty with another top-three finish at the state championship tournament. The team traveled to the University of Illinois at Springfield for the Mock Trial State Championship, ultimately claiming 3rd place. The 2007-2008 season marks the eleventh time in the last twelve years that Timothy has finished in the top three at the state competition.
This year’s case involved a high school bully charged with aggravated battery for breaking a fellow student’s arm. Timothy competed against St. Charles North and Hubbard in the first two rounds.
Timothy advanced to the final round of eight, in which each team has one more trial. Timothy played Boylan Catholic from Rockford in an amazing final trial.
Coach Scott Roelofs said, “It was one of the best trials I have ever seen. Boylan had tremendous team and we gave one of the best performances of the year against the toughest team we faced all year.” At the close of the competition, Timothy was awarded 3rd place, Boylan was awarded 2nd place, and Highland Park (a team that Timothy had previously beaten) was awarded first.
Timothy’s team was made up of Seniors- Heather Hooker, Leanna Johnson, James VanDenBerg, Juniors Caroline Hays, Dan Denby, Ibie Hart, Amanda Rychtanek, Corey VanDyk, Sophomore Olivia Doig, Freshman Taylor Hoogendoorn, teacher Scott Roelofs, and attorneys Cathy McNeil Stein and Kirsten Hauser.
This year’s achievement was especially satisfying because none of the Timothy students had ever been a starter until this year.
Congratulations to all team members and coaches!

POSITION OPENING: TIMOTHY CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS AFTER SCHOOL CHILD CARE DIRECTOR
At the February meeting of the Board of Directors approval was given for the development of a K-6 After School Child Care program to be in place by August, 2008. Depending on the level of family interest, there would be a possibility for a Before School Child Care program as well.
The first and most important step in this development is the hiring of an outstanding candidate to direct this self-sustaining program. Experience in developing or working in a similar program is preferred, but not required.
The future director of this program should be well organized, have a love of children, have excellent communication skills for interacting with parents, and be self-motivated to shape and manage a child-care program.
Qualified candidates should send a resume to:
Dr. Tim Hoeksema
188 W. Butterfield Road
Elmhurst, IL 60126

Anyway you plan it, the evening is sure to be a fun and entertaining way to spend time with both old and new acquaintances.
Enjoy Worlds of Food as you travel to several ethnic food stations representing different countries. This easy style allows for culture tasting. And to add to your personal enjoyment, professional chefs will prepare your food to order.

FOR PRAYER
Please pray for teachers Faith Schoon and Gail Salvatori whose fathers passed away recently.
DID YOU KNOW . . .
-that several high school students are participating in a Drafting competition this Friday at College of DuPage?
-that this week is Iowa Basics Testing Week in the elementary school?
-that on Monday afternoon, the 2nd grade welcomed a special visitor? Ena Vander Molen, a Wycliffe Bible translator spoke to the students about her work in the Philippines among the Obo Manobo people. As part of the worship theme projects, the 2nd grade students are collecting “Pennies for Penicillin” to raise money to help purchase medicines to meet the needs of these people. Watch our website in the days ahead for more information about this project.
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
Taking advantage of a balmy day, a priest and three other men of the cloth swapped their clerical garb for polos and khakis and time out on the golf course. After several really horrible shots, their caddy asked, "You guys wouldn't be clergy by any chance?"
"Actually, yes, we are," one cleric replied. "How did you know?"
"Easy," said the caddy, "I've never seen such bad golf and such clean language!"
