The week of April 7, 2008

A weekly email newsletter from Timothy Christian Schools to keep you informed, involved and invited.

Our Mission: “Serving God and His people, Timothy Christian Schools develops academically prepared Christian disciples who embrace Christ’s call to transform the world.”

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

“Sabbath ceasing [means] to cease not only from work itself, but also from the need to accomplish and be productive, from the worry and tension that accompany our modern criterion of efficiency, from our efforts to be in control of our lives as if we were God, from our possessiveness and our enculturation, and finally, from the humdrum and meaninglessness that result when life is pursued without the Lord at the center of it all.”- Marva J. Dawn in “Keeping the Sabbath Wholly”

“A NIGHT OUT FOR TIMOTHY”

THE TIMOTHY CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS BENEFIT & AUCTION

“A Night Out For Timothy” on Saturday April 19 promises to be a fun night of fellowship and support for our school.  There is a broad array of items in both the silent and live auctions of various values.  Don’t miss the fun of the games and live auction, even if this is your first time to participate.  Group together to bid, splitting the contribution, but sharing the prize!

Travel is definitely the theme as there are room stays in Lake Tahoe, Colorado, Orlando, Wisconsin and New Buffalo in the live auction.  Unusual items include a Private Airplane Tour of Chicago or be a sportscaster on the Jonathan Brandmeier Show.  Learn the racing limits of a BMW 335i on a grand prix racetrack with you in the driver’s seat!  Cruise Lake Michigan in a 44ft Hunter sailboat or attend the Jonas Brothers concert (ask your kids).  There are numerous sports tickets and 18 holes of golf at Butler Golf Course.

It’s not too late to reserve your spot at “A Night Out For Timothy”.  Call Maribeth Anderson at 630-279-3035 or email at maribethanderson@yahoo.com.  More details can be found on the web at www.timothychristian.com/anightoutfortimothy.php.

GEOGRAPHY BEE COMPETITION CONTINUES . . .

Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography.

Schools with students in grades four through eight are eligible for this entertaining and challenging test of geographic knowledge.

After winning the Timothy Christian Geography Bee, seventh grader Peter Carlson excelled on a written test to qualify for the next level of competition.  On Friday, April 4, Peter will compete in the State Geography Bee in Chicago.  The winner will go to Washington, D.C. for the final competition in May. Congratulations Peter!

Would-be competitors can prepare for the 2009 Geography Bee and play geography games at www.nationalgeographic.com/geographybee/.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL IN REHEARSAL

There IS a balm in Gilead.  It takes the arrival of a young girl fresh out of prison to transform this tiny little town in the NORTHWOODS of Wisconsin.  Based on the motion picture of the same name, THE SPITFIRE GRILL, a musical, will be presented by the Timothy Christian High School Drama Club on the evenings of April 24, 25, and 26.  The story is told in song in a wonderful bluegrass style.  A message of grace, redemption and second chances shines through each note with the brilliant colors of paradise.  Come and join us for what promises to be a very moving experience for audience members. Performances will start at 7:30 PM in the Huizenga Auditorium.  Tickets will go on sale in the high school library/media center starting next Monday April 14.  Reserved seats will be available only through advanced ticket sales.  Tickets can be purchased during regular school hours in the library or they may be reserved by e-mailing Judd Rinsema at rinsemaj@timothychristian.com. This musical is recommended for ages 6th grade and up.

SENIOR PORTRAIT NEWS FOR THE CLASS OF ‘09

So please come in early and save!  Please check out their web site at rootstudios.com to find a location near you. Also, beginning with the class of 2009, our seniors will have the option to view their senior proofs online, instead of receiving paper proofs through the mail. Once online, seniors will have the ability to select their yearbook pose and place an order.   As security is always a top priority, a password is assigned to each student, allowing the family to decide who to grant access to (friends, relatives, etc.).
