A weekly email newsletter from Timothy Christian Schools to keep you informed, involved and invited.
Our Mission: “Serving God and His people, Timothy Christian Schools develops academically prepared Christian disciples who embrace Christ’s call to transform the world.”
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“Knowing one's self, finding one's self, and expending one's self for another are intertwined activities. Love of self, love of God, and love of neighbor are interdependent.”
- Sidney Callahan in “With All Our Heart and Mind”

FOR PRAYER
Please remember to pray for Humboldt Community Christian School and the family and friends of teacher Mandy Annis, who was killed in a bicycling accident April 30. Mandy, a 5th-grade teacher at Humboldt, was killed about 3 p.m. when her bicycle collided with a car. Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the driver might have run a red light. According to a Chicago Tribune article last week, “Annis, 24, spent most of her adolescence in Romania, where her family worked as Christian missionaries, said her father, John. She moved from Romania to Chicago to attend Moody Bible Institute. After graduation, she took a job at Humboldt Community Christian School.”
Humboldt is one of our partners in the work of the New to You Resale Store.
Also pray for Timothy’s Board of Directors tonight as they consider the revised scope of the Campus Master Plan. A special meeting has been called to seek guidance from God in making their decision.
CALLING ALL TO THE ANNUAL SOCIETY MEETING
Timothy Christian Schools will conduct its Annual Society Meeting on Wednesday, May 28 in the Huizenga Auditorium beginning at 7:30PM. The agenda will include 2008-09 Board elections and adoption of the 2008-09 budget. In addition the Board will be seeking approval to amend the Constitution to allow that the majority of supporting church board members may be reduced from 75% to 67%. There will also be a presentation on the Campus Master Plan for program and facility expansion.
SAVE THE DATE!
In fact, reserve the entire night! In addition to the Annual Society Meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday May 28 in the Huizenga Auditorium, it will also be a night of institutional celebration and thanksgiving. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria Timothy will host an Open House for six retiring teachers. Please join us for light refreshments and an opportunity to thank Marge Bogdalek, Ruth Harkema, Judd and Linda Rinsema, and Marve and Phyllis Wolterstorff for their combined 160 years of service to Timothy Christian Schools. We have been truly blessed by their commitment to God’s work here.
EGG INCUBATION PROJECT: WE HAVE CHICKS!
Students on Monday morning were excited to hear that the first baby chick had emerged from its shell! By noon on Monday, two more had hatched with several more preparing to hatch. Already, the peeps of the chicks are filling the library, much to the excitement of the students! Once they are dry, the chicks will be moved to the brooder and will head to Koppings Farm by the end of the week. Watch our website for regular updates and more information about this project.
HIGH SCHOOL VARIETY SHOW
Timothy’s 3rd Annual Variety Show took place this past Friday in the Huizenga Auditorium. Student hosts Max Baumbach and John Randle kept the show moving with their clever banter! The show was a nice variety of talent including dance, vocal and instrumental. The winners were Jeff Hayley and Dan Couture who performed a drum composition. All proceeds from the evening will go to support seniors Jon Sytsma and David Dodgson who will be heading to New Zealand to do mission work. Watch for photos of this event on our website, coming soon!
RAY GRAHAM ASSOCIATION ART SHOW AT TIMOTHY
Timothy is thrilled to host an Art Show with The Ray Graham Association for People with Disabilities on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 27 and 28, in the lobby of the Huizenga Auditorium. Founded in 1950, Ray Graham Association (www.ray-graham.org) is a private non-profit organization that provides a broad array of services and support to more than 2,500 children and adults with developmental disabilities. Programs include respite, recreation, residential services, day programs and supported employment.
The Art Show begins at 8:00 p.m. on the 27th and features the work of adults served by the Ray Graham Association. Many of the artists will be on hand, and some of the pieces will be available for purchase. The Art Show is in conjunction with Timothy’s final choir concert of the year on Tuesday and the Annual Society Meeting on Wednesday. Come and see the work and show your support for this vital community organization.
CALL FOR BOOK FAIR VOLUNTEERS
If you like books and like kids, you may want to help with the book fair. Tasks include setting up, helping children select stories, baking cookies, selling books, reordering, packing up, and distributing the back orders. PARENT NIGHT AT THE BOOK FAIR
The Timothy Book Fair will open on Tuesday, May 13 in the mini-gym from 6:30 to 8:00 pm so you can help your child choose great books. Stay for a story, milk and cookies. You can also see children's art work on display. The twenty-five percent profit earned on each book is designated for projects to improve our students' writing abilities. ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
A tired homemaker opened the front door of her home to find a young minister from the neighborhood who said, "I'm collecting donations for the new children's home we're building. I hope you'll give what you can."
"Oh, bless you," said the beleaguered woman, "I'll give you two boys, two girls, or one of each."
