The week of October 22, 2007

A weekly email newsletter from Timothy Christian Schools to keep you informed, involved and invited.

Our Mission: “Serving God and His people, Timothy Christian Schools develops academically prepared Christian disciples who embrace Christ’s call to transform the world.”

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

“Jesus' approach is always fresh, surprising, new, and unexpected. Consequently, it always provoked a direct reaction . . .  He shattered firmly formed convictions and beliefs. He often used nonreligious language, avoiding the religious language of his contemporaries, a language that had been used so long, and so often by so many people, that it had lost its meaning almost completely. He continually used examples from everyday life to express himself.”  - Joseph G. Donders “Praying and Preaching the Sunday Gospel”

SMARTBOARD MOMENTUM BUILDS: ADOPT A SMARTBOARD PROGRAM BEGINS

Over the CEA convention break wiring preparations were made for the installation of an additional 20 SMARTBoards on campus. This latest installation will bring the campus total to 35, with this amazing technology spreading to grades 6-8 (11) and additional high school classrooms (9). The first round brought 12 SMARTBoards to grades 2-5 and 3 to the high school.

The very good news is that parents—impressed by what they see from teachers and hear from their students—are offering to “adopt” a SMARTBoard or two for the school. While the first round was financed by gifts from Partners in Education and private donations, we’re still looking for donors for the second round.

Today we received the good news that a parent couple wishes to adopt “at least two” SMARTBoards. If you’d like to help with this cause with gifts small or large, contact Dave Larsen at (630) 782-4072 for the details.

NOT FOR SALE CAMPAIGN

Timothy is sponsoring a major event in a new Abolitionist Movement on Sunday, November 11 from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Huizenga Auditorium. Human trafficking is rapidly becoming one of the greatest moral battles of our time. The Not For Sale Campaign is doing something about it, and we can too.

27 million people are enslaved today—and some of them live right next door to us, here in the United States. Not For Sale is a campaign of individuals, musicians, artists, people of faith, businesses, schools and sports teams united to stop it. The event at Timothy will feature speaking, film, music, and action-oriented content. The Not For Sale team provides first hand accounts of the Abolitionist Movement—both domestic and abroad. Check out more at www.notforsalecampaign.org and plan to attend this event. Bring your church!

DID YOU KNOW . . .

--that the Middle School Lock-In is November 2?

--that next week Wednesday (10/31) marks the end of 1st quarter?  How time flies when you’re having fun!!

FOR PRAYER

-God’s blessing on the work of the Not For Sale Campaign and for strong support for it from among Timothy families

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

When Mr. Van Prooyen picked up the phone, Special Agent Smith from the IRS was on the line.

"Hello, is this the superintendent?"

"Yes, this is."

"I'm calling to inquire about a constituent of Timothy Christian Schools, a David Larsen. Do you recognize the name?"

"Yes, he is a constituent of our school. How can I be of service?"

"Well, on last year's tax return, the doctor claimed that he made a sizable tax-deductible contribution to your school. Is this true?"

"Well, I'll have to have our bookkeeper verify this information for you. How much did this Larsen say he contributed?"

"Twenty-five thousand dollars," answered Agent Smith. "Can you tell me if this information is accurate?"

There was a long pause.

"I'll tell you what," replied Mr. Van Prooyen, "call back tomorrow. I'm sure it will be."
