A weekly email newsletter from Timothy Christian Schools to keep you informed, involved and invited.
Our Mission: “Serving God and His people, Timothy Christian Schools develops academically prepared Christian disciples who embrace Christ’s call to transform the world.”
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“Curiously, the most serious religious people, or the most concerned scholars, those who constantly read the Bible as a matter of professional or pious duty, can often manage to evade a radically involved dialogue with the book they are questioning.” - Thomas Merton in “Opening the Bible”

Timothy is sponsoring a major event in a new Abolitionist Movement on Sunday, November 11 from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Huizenga Auditorium. Human trafficking is rapidly becoming one of the greatest moral battles of our time. The Not For Sale Campaign is doing something about it, and we can too.
27 million people are enslaved today—and some of them live right next door to us, here in the United States. Not For Sale is a campaign of individuals, musicians, artists, people of faith, businesses, schools and sports teams united to stop it. The event at Timothy will feature speaking, film, music, and action-oriented content. The Not For Sale team provides first hand accounts of the Abolitionist Movement—both domestic and abroad. Check out more at www.notforsalecampaign.org and plan to attend this event. Bring your church!
This event is sponsored by Timothy and Change Design Group, Darwill Press, Providence Bank, V3, and Bastian and Joan Knoppers.
GOLF OUTING REACHES GOAL
Thanks to all who attended and all who sponsored the recent Athletic Boosters’ Golf Outing at Ruffled Feathers. The event raised $22,000 which will enable the purchase of another mini-bus for transporting students to athletic and co-curricular events.
SMARTBOARD MOMENTUM BUILDS: ADOPT A SMARTBOARD PROGRAM BEGINS
Over the CEA convention break wiring preparations were made for the installation of an additional 20 SMARTBoards on campus. This latest installation will bring the campus total to 35, with this amazing technology spreading to grades 6-8 (11) and additional high school classrooms (9). The first round brought 12 SMARTBoards to grades 2-5 and 3 to the high school.
The very good news is that parents—impressed by what they see from teachers and hear from their students—are offering to “adopt” a SMARTBoard or two for the school. While the first round was financed by gifts from Partners in Education and private donations, we’re still looking for donors for the second round. If you’d like to help with this cause with gifts small or large, contact Dave Larsen at (630) 782-4072 for the details.
Still wondering what SMARTBoards are all about? Check out this link from our website: http://www.timothychristian.com/smartboards.php
MUSIC DEPARTMENT EVENT TONIGHT

ANNUAL SPORTS PARENT MEETING
The Annual Sports Parent Meeting for parents of all Timothy Christian High School athletes will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday, November 12, 2007 in the HS cafeteria. This is a mandatory meeting to discuss various issues related to our high school athletic program, including program philosophy, expectations, eligibility issues, extra-curricular code, Booster Club, etc. There will also be a sign-up table for basketball season concessions (This will be your opportunity to pick your date and time to work concessions). The girls and boys basketball coaches will meet with parents of their teams immediately following the meeting.
“ANNIE” COMES TO TIMOTHY
The popular musical “Annie” comes to the Timothy stage on Thursday-Saturday November 15-17 for performances in the Huizenga Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. each evening. Tickets are now on sale from the High School library for $6.00 adults and $5.00 for students/senior citizens.
FACULTY-SENIOR GAME ANOTHER ONE FOR THE BOOKS
Chalk up another victory for the Faculty in their latest conquest of the Seniors in flag football, by a score of 21-13. The injury report has Rudi Gesch typing this morning with a cast on his right sprained or broken wrist. Faculty MVP honors went to all-purpose Oliver Hersey. Next up: the Chicago Bears, and the faculty team is very, very confident.
CROSS COUNTRY SECTIONAL RESULTS
On Saturday at the Niles West IHSA Sectional both the Timothy girls’ team and the boys’ individual qualifiers ran very well! The girls team finished 9th in the twenty team field. The girls were paced by state qualifier Katie Dirkse (23rd in 19:55). Katie was followed closely by Leah Bosman (35th in 20:12), Kristin VanKampen (46th in 20:37), Natalie Kuick (57th in 21:05), Samantha Goedeke (64th in 21:27), Anna Boot (87th in 22:09) and Candace Wieringa (89th in 22:11).
In the boys race, sophomore Jeff VanderKamp (56th in 17:21) and junior Bruce Larkin (73rd in 17:35) ran extremely well to cap off exceptional inaugural seasons.
Katie garnered the 7th individual qualifying spot and will represent Timothy in the IHSA class 2A state championship race this Saturday (November 3) at 11:00 in Peoria.
Congratulations on a very good season, and special thanks to our seniors Mark Zylstra, Kristin VanKampen, Anna Boot and Candace Wieringa.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
A man was driving down a country road in the middle of dairy farm country when his car stalled inexplicably. He got out and raised the hood to see if he could find out what had happened.
A brown and white cow slowly lumbered from the field she had been grazing in over to the car and stuck her head under the hood beside the man.
After a moment the cow looked at the man and said, "Looks like a bad carburetor to me." Then she walked back into the field and began grazing again.
Amazed, the man walked back to the farmhouse he had just passed, where he met a farmer. "Hey, mister, is that your cow in the field?" he asked.
The farmer replied, "The brown and white one? Yep, that's old Bessie."
The man then said, "Well my car's broken down, and she just said, 'Looks like a bad carburetor to me.'"
The farmer shook his head and said, "Don't mind old Bessie, son. She don't know a thing about cars."
