THE MEDIA AND OUR STUDENTS
The education committee of the school board has established a sub-committee to evaluate how the school is and should be equipping our students to be discerning regarding the media in our culture. What does it mean to be “in the world but not of the world,” as we absorb culture through media? The question becomes even more important as access to media is multiplied and privatized through the various forms of digital media available in culture. This Wednesday a lecture by Jackson Katz will be presented at Aurora University from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on the topic, “The Macho Paradox: Violence, Media and the Crisis in Masculinity.” Much about popular male culture contributes to sexual and domestic violence. This includes mainstream media images from sports, television and music videos which promote violent masculinity as a cultural norm. Renowned educator Jackson Katz will explore the cultural environment that condones sexism and violence and will provide practical tools for raising boys in an atmosphere where being a man is not about violence. If you are interested in attending this free lecture RSVP by phone to 630-325-1900 or reservations@robertcrown.org.
TUITION TAX CREDIT
Tax time is upon us again. Did you know that Timothy Christian School parents can receive up to a $500 tax credit because of the tuition that they pay? You can do this by completing a “Receipt for Qualified Education Expenses” form which can be downloaded from the following website: tax.illinois.gov. Go to the left side and find “Forms/Publications.” Go down to near the bottom of the page under the heading “Other Tax Related Forms/Publications.” Look for “School Form”. Choose “Form”. This form indicates that it should be completed by the school. However, some of the information is not available to us (e.g. social security numbers). Timothy Christian Schools can provide a receipt with all the tuition amounts for each of your children which you could then transfer to this form.* You can then attach our receipt to the form. Please note that you must complete the ED Worksheet in the Form IL-1040 instructions to figure the amount of your credit. If you have any questions, feel free to call the business office at 630-833-4616.
*Timothy Christian Schools will not automatically send you a receipt for your 2007 payments. You can request one by calling or stopping in at the business office or e-mailing Lisa Zylstra at zylstral@timothychristian.com. The receipt can be mailed, sent home with a student, or e-mailed directly to you.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
During a phone conversation, my nephew mentioned that he was taking a psychology course at the university.
"Oh, great," I said. "Now you'll be analyzing everyone in the family."
"No, no," he replied. "I don't take abnormal psychology until next semester."
