Ms. Abby Wiers

Personal Profile:
I grew up in Escondido, California until middle school when my dad took a new job in Brookfield, Wisconsin.  I have enjoyed being able to claim both west coast and midwest roots.  I am the youngest of 4 kids and I have absolutely loved getting to follow in the footsteps of my siblings by attending Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  I moved to Chicago last August and have loved exploring all that the city has to offer.  I have enjoyed being closer to my family and finding a good community of friends to enjoy city life with.

Professional Profile:
I first fell in love with teaching during my semester abroad in Rehoboth, New Mexico.  I did my teacher aiding there and loved the students, culture, and natural beauty.  I did my student teaching at the Potter's House in Grand Rapids which increased my love of educating a diverse student body.  I had the privilege of teaching for a year at Oakdale Christian School in Grand Rapids which was an absolutely wonderful experience.  I spent the past school year working at Roseland Christian School which was another awesome experience.  Being the daughter of a Christian school principal, I have spent a lot of time in Christian schools and hearing about Christian education. I have grown to understand the importance of Christian education and the wonderful blessing that it is in the lives of the community.  I am thrilled to spend my third year of teaching at Timothy. I am eager to learn more about the community and see how I can best serve here.

Philosophical Profile:
I believe as Christian educators, we have a special privilege and calling.  I love the ability to discuss with my students what is going on in the world and what we as Christians can do about it.  God has called us to renew and reform the creation around us.  He has blessed us richly and we can use these gifts to bless others.  I want students to learn about themselves and to see what God has given them.  I want them to discover their own unique gifts and see how they can join in the work of reforming this world.  In my classroom we regularly talk about God and how he has called us to learn about his creation.  We learn about the community he has called us to live in and how we can best serve and support it.  We are all members of one body and we must learn to use our gifts well.

15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:15-17
