George Bosman - '62

The Distinguished Alumni Award was presented spring of 2007 to George Bosman, Class of ’62. Friends and former colleagues attended the reception for Bosman in the Christ Church Fireside Room before the high school graduation ceremony.

In presenting the award, Alumni Board President Dennis Keizer ’72 said this: “Mr. George Bosman put his education and gifts to good use: serving students, parents, and colleagues with an enthusiastic and hope-filled faith in Jesus Christ as a teacher at Timothy Christian Schools.

George began his service at Timothy Christian Schools in August of 1967, after his college work at Trinity Christian College and Calvin College. Although he is technically “retired,” he continues to teach mathematics in the middle school on a part-time basis. To those who know George well, this comes as no surprise. Throughout his long tenure at Timothy he fulfilled a wide range of duties with distinction: math teacher, coach, worship leader, inventor of “Wing Sings,” committee member, summer camp teacher, and Saturday intramurals coordinator with Ken Huizinga. He was an early pioneer in introducing students to math computations on the computer, using math games for learning.

Enthusiasm and a positive spirit characterize whatever George does, as an outgrowth of his vital faith in Jesus Christ. In many ways he was and remains the Ernie Banks of Christian education. His “Let’s play two” delight in teaching was a contagious quality to George’s work, one which colleagues appreciated and students noticed. They knew this teacher loved them and wanted the best for them. Timothy Christian Schools is blessed to have one of its own devote so many years of his life to Christian education at the institution which helped shape him. Many of tonight’s graduates experienced firsthand his servant heart. George’s voice is the first one heard on Timothy’s new promotional DVD, and he speaks of servanthood. Later, he has this to say ‘I tell my kids each year that success in education isn’t about grades; success is about character development. So who are you going to be in this world God puts us in?’

Well said, George. Better yet, well-lived.”
