Ahn & Lee take 3rd at State in Tennis Doubles
It was a year of firsts for TC girls tennis. Junior Abygale Ahn and freshman Cassandra Lee made TC tennis history this past weekend with a 3rd place finish in the Class A State Tournament. They are the first TC tennis medalists and led Timothy to a top ten finish in team scoring and also a highest ever finish.
Last year, the team finished in 11th place. Consider the numbers: There are 160 teams entered in Class A tennis and 56 teams qualified a player in the State Finals. It’s not easy to finish in the top ten. They finished 3rd out of 320 doubles teams who entered in the State Series beginning with Sectional play.
At State on day 1 and day 2, the duo cruised through the competition dropping only six games. Saturday’s matches proved to be the opposite as they played two back-to-back three setters losing the Semifinal match and then pulling out the third place match with an exciting comeback.
Abygale finishes the season with a personal record of 30-2, Conference Champ at 1st Singles, Niles North Invite Doubles Champ, 3rd in State and still has time to play on the volleyball team. Cassandra breaks the school record for most wins in a season with an unbelievable 38-2 record and Conference First Doubles Championship, Niles North Invite Doubles Champ, Willowbrook Invite 1st Singles Champ and also 3rd in State. And, she is only a freshman.
Congratulations to Abygale and Casssandra!
