Double Win in Double Header Against Northride Prep
4/30/11
Timothy Christian 13, Northridge Prep 2 (5 innings)-Game 1
The Trojans took on the Knights of Northridge Prep in their 1st doubleheader of the season and didn't waste any time in showing they came to play by collecting 10 hits to account for 12 runs in the 1st inning of Game 1. Michael Wieringa, Brandon Scott and Jimmy Huisman all went 2-2 in the inning with Wieringa picking up 4 RBI while Scott and Huisman each recorded 2 RBI. Philip Stanton was dominant on the mound, posting a line of 5 IP, 2 R, 3 H. Stanton also accounted for all but 4 outs via the strikeout, racking up 11 K's and sending more than one opposing batter walking back to the dugout shaking their head. The offensive exclamation point on the day was recorded by Brandon Scott, who sent a high fastball sailing over the left-field fence for his 1st HR of the season. Scott ended the game going 3-3 with a double, a homerun, and 3 RBI. Along with Huisman and Wieringa, Luke Hooker also added a pair of hits for the victors.
Timothy Christian 18, Northridge Prep 8 (6 innings)-Game 2
The 2nd game of the Trojans/Knights twinbill started off in exactly the opposite way the first game did. The visitors collected more hits in the 1st inning than they had in all of Game #1, plating six runs off starter Justin Funchess, while the Trojans were unable to help out their starter by not scoring a run until the 3rd inning, when Luke Davidson drove in Matt Biscan for the 1st run of the game for the Trojans making the score 7-1 after three innings. The Trojans, determined not to let an offensive funk slow them down, got the ball rolling in the 4th. Stanford Sullivan, Wes Ditchfield, and Jack Miller all reached base to start the inning and Davidson, Michael Wieringa, and George Thompson all recorded an RBI in the inning. Ditchfield came up a second time in the inning to drive in Thompson to cap the 4th inning scoring for the Trojans and when the dust settled the scoreboard read 8-7 in favor of the Trojans. Alex Johnson took over on the mound and mowed down the Knights, allowing only 1 run over the final 3 innings while striking out five to pick up an unconventional save as Funchess picked up the win, tossing 4 innings and leaving with the lead. The offensive onslaught continued into the 5th and 6th innings as the Trojans put up 6 runs in the 5th and 4 runs in the 6th. Highlights include RBI knocks by Davidson, Ditchfield, Scott, and Sullivan. The offensive leaders of Game 2 were Funchess (4-5, 1 R, 1 SB), Davidson (3-5, 3 R, 3 RBI), Thompson (1-5, 3 R, 3 RBI), and Ditchfield (3-4, 2 R, 3 RBI). With two weeks left in the season, the Trojans picked up win number ten and now sit at 10-5 overall, 6-5 in MSC play.
Close Loss Against Glenbard South
4/29/11
Glenbard South 10, Timothy Christian 9
In the 1st inning of Game 3 in the Trojans/Raiders series, it seemed as though the Raider hitters had finally found their groove as they hit around and scored six runs to momentarily stun the Trojans of Timothy Christian. The Trojans responded with a single run in their half of the 1st, thanks to an RBI single by Luke Davidson that drove in Ethan Bardolph. Justin VanderNaald helped his own cause by lining a double before scoring on Davidson's 2nd RBI of the game in the 3rd to close the gap to 6-2. After the Raiders picked up an additional run in the top of the 4th, the Trojan bats came to life. Ben Zastrow reached on a Glenbard South error and scored on a Jimmy Huisman single. Emerson Bandemer promptly drove in Huisman with a single of his own before Justin VanderNaald stepped up and sent a mistake by the Raiders pitcher sailing over the left-field fence for a 2-run HR to pull the home team within one run at 7-6. George Thompson took over on the mound and kept the opposition at bay for two innings, allowing his teammates to pull into the lead due to RBI singles by Huisman, Matt Biscan, and Justin Funchess. Any hopes of completing the 3-game sweep were erased, however, as the Raiders sent eight men to the plate in the top of the 7th inning, scoring three runs to take a slim 10-9 lead and the win in the final game of the series. VanderNaald was a force on the offensive end for the Trojans, going 2-3 with a double, a homerun, and two RBI's. Davidson and Huisman both recorded a 2-4 day at the plate with 2 RBI's each. The Trojans record now stands at 8-5 overall, 6-5 in conference play.
Extra Innings Prove Beneficial vs. Glenbard South
4/28/11
Timothy Christian 12, Glenbard South 8 (8 innings)
The Trojans traveled to face the Raiders in a conference showdown and returned victorious in an extra innings battle. The Trojans scraped together a run in the 1st without recording a hit thanks to three walks before adding two more runs in the 2nd and three in the 3rd thanks to a 2-run single by Ethan Bardolph. The Trojans took advantage of a Glenbard South error to plate two more runs in the 4th, increasing their lead to 8-2. The Raiders wouldn't go down without a fight, however, finally figuring out starter Stanford Sullivan in the 4th by responding with three runs to cut the lead to 8-5. Bandemer and Justin Funchess led the Trojans offense with two hits each while Bardolph recorded 3 RBI's. Bandemer picked up the win in relief, tossing 4 1/3 innings while striking out three. JV Baseball Meets Glenbard South in first Conference Meeting
4/25/11
Timothy Christian 5, Glenbard South 4
Timothy Christian traveled to Glenbard South for the first ever conference meeting between the Trojans and the Raiders and the visitors opened up the scoring right away in the 1st inning. Emerson Bandemer singled and stole 2nd to put himself in scoring position for Michael Wieringa, who drove him in with an RBI single to put the Trojans up 1-0. The Raiders were able to even the score in the 2nd on an RBI single of their own, but the rally was shut down on a bullet from centerfielder Luke Davidson to nail a runner down at 3rd base to end the inning. After the Raiders went up 2-1 in the 4th, the Trojans responded with a single by Justin Funchess, a steal of 2nd, and an RBI single by Bandemer to knot the score at 2 all. In the bottom of the 6th, the ball was rolling the Raiders way as a couple of close calls and defensive errors led to two home team runs and a 4-2 lead entering the final frame. The Trojans, however, wouldn’t go down easily as Funchess, Bandemer, Wieringa, and Ethan Bardolph all reached as the Trojans cut the lead to one run when Brandon Scott stepped up to the plate and laced a single that brought Bardolph and Wieringa around to score to give the Trojans a 5-4 lead. The Raiders were able to move the tying run to 2nd base with only one out in the bottom of the inning, but a stellar defensive grab and flip double play by 2nd baseman Bardolph effectively ended any chance for the Raiders. Alex Johnson was stellar on the mound for the victors, tossing 5 innings and striking out six in his no decision. Bandemer picked up the win in relief, tossing 2 innings and striking out a pair. The offense was led by Bandemer, Wieringa, Scott, Davidson, and Funchess who all picked up 2 hits in the victory. The Trojans improve to 7-4 overall, 5-4 in MSC play.

The score remained 6 all until the bottom of the 6th when the Vikings were able to send seven men to the plate and score 2 runs to lead 8-6. The Trojans were unable to put together any offense in the top of the 7th and were handed a 2nd straight conference loss. TC JV Baseball Comes Back Against Elmwood Park
4/14/11
Timothy Christian 6, Elmwood Park 1
The Trojans JV Baseball team traveled to Elmwood Park looking to steal a win from the Tigers after dropping their first two meetings in the three game series. Justin VanderNaald took the mound to try and slow down a Tiger offense that had racked up 24 runs in the first two games, and he was brilliant from the start. VanderNaald struck out the first two batters looking to set the tone for the game and the Trojan bats backed him up by picking up a run in the 2nd when Ben Zastrow knocked in Luke Davidson for a 1-0 Trojans lead. The offense kept rolling in the 3rd inning when VanderNaald, Davidson, and Michael Wieringa all knocked in runs to stake the visitors to a 4-0 lead.
