Personal Profile
I was born and raised in Chicago and attended Roseland Christian School until 3rd grade when my family moved to the southwest suburb of Worth. I continued my education at Southwest Chicago Christian School and Chicago Christian High School.
I am married and have 4 children – 3 girls and 1 boy. Our family attends Hope Christian Reformed Church in Oak Forest, IL.. When I am not at school I am driving my children to various activities, working in the studio, or gardening.
Professional Profile
I have been a self-employed artist since graduating from Trinity Christian College in 1982, and earned a Masters of Art in Painting and Drawing in 2002 from Governor’s State University. I have always enjoyed painting portraiture, children at play, bikes, and floral paintings. In addition to teaching at Timothy, I teach watercolor workshops around the country for a variety of art schools on weekends and during the summer.
After high school I attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and completed my bachelor degree at Trinity Christian College majoring in Art and Psychology. Several years ago I completed a Master’s degree in Drawing and Painting and my certification as a K-12 Art Specialist after which I began teaching at Timothy Christian Schools.
Philosophical Profile
In Genesis God reveals Himself as Creator, details the process of creation, and reflects on His efforts. As image-bearers of God we have been uniquely created to be creative. My role as a teacher is to engage students so they grow in their ability to respond creatively to their Creator and also to live responsibly in relation to their neighbor.
The creative process promotes forming ideas, solving problems, using a variety of materials, tools, and technology, and finally reflecting on one’s efforts. These are life skills that will enable students to be successful in the classroom and in the world. My role as educator is to design, organize, and implement effective lessons that encourage students to form connections between the subject matter taught and the world beyond the classroom.
