Personal Profile

Teaching has been my profession of choice since September, 1974.  My first teaching experience was at Valley Christian High School in Cerritos, California.  My wife, JoAnn and I moved from Kalamazoo, Michigan that summer.  After teaching there for three years we moved back to the Midwest…specifically, Elmhurst and Timothy Christian High School.  I’m beginning my 35th year at Timothy.  JoAnn works as an administrative assistant at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church.  We have three children…Mike, along with his wife Amy, and son Jimmy, and daughter Annie, live in Glendale, California; Beth lives in Lombard and teaches 2nd grade at Timothy; and Dave, his wife Beth, and daughter Molly live in Chicago.  My interests include traveling, history and sports.

Professional Profile

I graduated in 1973 from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Business Education was my major and General Business was my minor.  My master’s degree in education was earned at National Louis University.  I have had the opportunity to coach many different sports during my years at Timothy…34 years as boys freshman basketball coach, as well, as girls varsity tennis, boys junior varsity tennis, girls softball, boys junior varsity baseball.  Currently I am the boys varsity baseball assistant coach. I am a member of the National Business Education Association.

Philosophical Profile

Abraham Kuyper, a well-known reformed leader, said “There is not an inch of all creation of which Jesus does not say ‘Mine’ “.  This statement of the reformed perspective covers my entire life and thus each of my classes is also approached from this perspective.   Students are encouraged to develop their stewardship…using the talents, abilities, time and resources as God has blessed them.
