The Class of 2017 is special to me. These young men and women are unstoppable! I have known this group since 6th grade when my youngest son, Joey, joined this class. Many have attended my Wednesday morning Bible study, I have coached some of them, I have been to their concerts and competitions and performances, many have been to my home, and some are even at my home more than I am. This class and their parents immediately adopted my family when we moved here from Arizona in the summer of 2010. As a matter of fact, it is not uncommon for me to exchange the words “I love you” with members of this class and their families.
My wife, Julie, and I have already seen our two older children graduate from TC—Luke in 2013 and Macy in 2015. Now we are watching our youngest child walk across the stage for his high school diploma. Parents seem to experience a variety of emotions on Graduation Day. Even though this is my third go-around, I am not immune to the emotions that accompany this special day.
Yes, part of me will be nostalgic as I reflect on how quickly all of this happened. I feel like I just blinked—and I am sending my youngest off to college. But I will also feel a sense of fulfillment and excitement. My son is a young man and ready for the next part of his journey. If I am being fully transparent, I think I will even feel a little bit of relief. Julie and I will be empty-nesters next fall. I am not naïve enough to believe that we are finished parenting: But the heavy lifting of our job is in the rearview mirror—to prepare our kids for the day they leave our home. Now we will officially assume new roles as parents.
Perhaps the most powerful emotion that I will experience at graduation is gratitude. I am so thankful for the influence and the help of others in the development of my children and all of the students at Timothy Christian Schools. Popular culture is trying to drag down our youth from every side, but the combination of the home, the church, and the Christian school is still a winning team! Timothy Christian Schools has impacted my family for eternity. The teachers, the coaches and staff, the leadership, the families, the students, the donors, the alumni—you get the picture. This community has rallied to train, equip, and inspire our young people to make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ. This is the mission of Timothy Christian Schools, and we are fiercely committed to it.

Timothy Christian Schools has challenged all three of my children to be their best and their most. Timothy Christian Schools has successfully partnered with Julie and me over the years. Together, as a team, we have provided my children with a road map to a life of fulfillment and reward. (John 10:10) The same road map has been passed on to TC graduates for over one hundred years. It has remained the same and without detours. Now it is up to the Class of 2017 to keep the course!
To the Class of 2017: Go ALL IN for the cause of Christ! Wholeheartedly sign-up for the mission. Keep HIM first in all things, and you will most certainly be unstoppable.
