Mr. Tom Day
Personal Profile
My wife Debbie and I live in Indian Trail in Westmont and enjoy biking, playing golf together and spending time with our children and grandchildren. We love to travel, both literally and figuratively through the world of literature. Recently we have spent time on the East coast on an “American Literature” tour of sites related to early American authors from Massachusetts to Maine, and also went overseas for the first time traveling to Shakespeare’s home on the Avon and visiting the Globe Theatre in London.
Professional Profile
I graduated from Calvin College in 1971 and began my teaching career spending 3 years at Dakota Christian High School in New Holland, South Dakota. I arrived at Timothy in the fall of 1974 and the Lord has led me to make this my home since that time. I have a Master’s Degree in Directing from Northern Illinois University. I have been teaching English and Speech classes since my arrival here at Timothy and have been the chairman of the English Department for over 12 years.
Philosophical Profile
Teaching is an act of faith. My faith in the Lord Jesus Christ defines who I am, in and out of the classroom. So I cannot help but share my faith with my students no matter what element of literature, or communication, or grammar we might be examining. Through my faith, I know that I have been called to be here at Timothy at this time. And I must have faith that the Lord is using me to lead and guide my students to develop and examine their own faith.
