Ms. Lisa Eastway
Personal Profile
I am a child of four and grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, moving to Chicago after graduating from Calvin College in 2005. I have many varied interests, but am most passionate about playing volleyball (beach or court), knitting, working at camps, Young Life, collecting maps, and visiting my friends and family members in fun cities. I attend Jericho Road while in Elmhurst and Mars Hill when I am back in Michigan. My favorite book is Story, written by Steven James. One of my favorite Bible passages is Joshua 1:9— “…the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Professional Profile
I graduated from Calvin College in May of 2005. I focused my studies in the Education Department by majoring in Religion and World History and was a student teacher at Holland Christian Middle School. I began working at Timothy in the fall of 2005, teaching Social Studies and Bible. I also coach J.V volleyball at Timothy, coordinate middle school chapels, and volunteer as a leader for Young Life in the high school.
Philosophy of Christian Education
My philosophy of Christian education is to create a safe environment of guidance and direction; also to encourage my students in their spiritual growth, to promote academic excellence, and to offer emotional support. Every student that comes into my room is made and loved by God, and it is my honor to be able to show them Christ like love. In this environment, I am able to teach Social Studies from a Christian perspective, which enables me to guide my students into a life of service in the kingdom of God. All students have God-given gifts and talents; however, 7th grade it is a tender time for students, as they are struggling to figure out what these gifts and talents are. I have a unique opportunity to help them discover their contributions to the beautiful world God created and the service He calls them to.
