Life in 5th Grade

The fifth graders’ at TC have an exuberance and enthusiasm that is contagious, and we are privileged as teachers to be kept young by this grade level. Fifth grade is a year of growth and transition.  Students are now “reading to learn” rather than learning to read and are increasing their ability to think abstractly and apply learned concepts.

In fifth grade we strive to pull Christ into the center of all that we do and teach.  We want our students to see the Lord as the Almighty Creator, by exploring His world and seeing His hand in all things through science.  We desire for them to see God as a Communicator with us, His beloved people, and to become, therefore, effective communicators themselves through language arts and reading.  In math, they discover the God of orderand reasoning.  We see through American history and social studies God’s providential care and the responsibility we have to interact with people and the environment in a Christ-like way.

We desire, also, for our students to recognize the attributes of God and to worship Him as we work through a Reformed worldview, discussing God’s unconditional grace, His atonement of us through Christ’s death on the cross, and His providential care.
