Sixth Grade Team

Life in 6th Grade

Throughout sixth grade students at Timothy are involved in many things.  Still part of the elementary school, the sixth graders enjoy the responsibility of being the leaders (like put up the flag, help with chapel set up, set up table and chairs for hot lunches, etc.).  Students spend their day in six major academic disciplines including Math, Bible,

Social Studies, Science, Language Arts, and Reading.  In addition they are given time slots through-out the week for Physical Education, Art, Music, Spelling, Spanish, Computer, and Library.

Sixth grade math continues the concepts and methods of Everyday Math, and includes a lot of practice on computation, story problems, and challenge questions.  In this way students are well prepared for the 7th grade math curriculum.

In Bible, we use the Bible as our basic textbook and cover the basic stories from Creation to David.  There is Bible memory review, learning of the basic passages of the Messiah (written by Handel), and the learning of new passages.  We believe that when the Bible says “Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.” it is our job to encourage them in this effort.

Social Studies is taught from the perspective that the Lord is in control and all things happen for a reason.

Science is taught so that the students can better understand God’s creation and to

be a bit amazed by it.

In language arts class we focus on writing skills which enable us to communicate successfully in the world God has given us.  In reading class we focus on finding the themes in various novels and then apply that knowledge to our Christian lifestyle.
