Ms. Jill Groenewold

Personal Profile

Rumor has it that I was born into this world with a basketball in one hand and a whistle in the other.  I could dribble a ball before I could walk and by 2 years old, I was receiving offers to play women’s basketball at some of the top 10 schools.  My parents felt that a Christian education was an important investment, so they enrolled me at Timothy Christian.  At Timothy, I was blessed to have an avenue in which to develop these talents and abilities.  I am so thankful to be able to pass on my love of Christ, sports, and fitness to the students I teach.  Being a product of Timothy itself gives me the unique position from which to guide students in their grown of the Lord and in their pursuit of good physical health.

Professional Profile

Upon graduating from Trinity Christian College with a BA in Physical Education, I left the Midwest and moved to sunny California.  I taught in a small Christian elementary school in Los Angeles for 7 years.  While there, I learned survival skills for earthquakes, wild fires, and riots.  I longed for stable ground in Illinois.  I moved back to the Chicago area and was offered a physical education position in the grade school.

Philosophical Profile

As a Christian, I believe that our bodies are gifts from God.  My mind and body work together as one.  Physical Education is an academic discipline which focuses on activities that maintain and develop not only the physical body, but also the importance of the mind.  As His image bearer, I strive to be proud of the body that God gave to me.  It gives me a special bond with my Creator, and it also gives me a great responsibility.  As a P. E. teacher, I strive to make that responsibility real to my students in a variety of ways, thereby allowing them to be reflections of Christ.
