TCHS Musicians Selected for Honor Festival
On Saturday, two TCHS music students participated in the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) District 1 festival at Elmhurst College. Both students passed rigorous auditions to be selected for the festival which featured top musicians from schools throughout the Chicago area. The day included many hours of rehearsal where students worked on repertoire and learned from clinicians as well as an afternoon performance.
Dana McAdam (soprano) participated in the District 1 festival for the second time as a TCHS student and sang this year under the direction of Dr. Robert Sinclair from VanderCook College of Music. The choral program included works by Mozart. Ticheli, and Stroope for mixed voices as well as two features for male and female voices alone.
Jack Vandermolen (clarinet) participated in the District 1 festival for the fourth time as a TCHS student and was seated first chair in the orchestra. This placement gave Jack the opportunity to perform as the clarinet soloist on Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez, and the orchestra performed masterworks by Verdi and Holst as well. The orchestra was conducted by Emanuele “Mo” Andrizzi, head of the orchestral program at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
Congratulations to both of these fine musicians!
Concert Chorale at MSC Choral Festival
On Thursday, November 16, the high school Concert Chorale joined with nine other schools in the Metro Suburban Conference for a choral festival at Walther Lutheran. They performed separately, received master class instruction from Dr. Charles Brown from Concordia University, and worked on two combined pieces with all 450 students. It was a great day of learning from and with each other.
