By Sloan VanDenBrook as told to Maddie Schaafsma
My name is Sloan VanDenBrook, and I am a first grader in Mrs. Kasper’s class. Every morning, Ms. Julie, my favorite bus driver, pulls up in a big yellow school bus to take me to first grade. Today is my 7th birthday and I am so happy I get to spend it at school. I love Timothy and I think it’s the best school. I have been at Timothy since preschool and I hope to stay here for a long time.
My favorite class is Bible, I like it because we get to relax and hear Bible stories. I think about the Bible stories for the rest of the day. I love learning more about God. We also get to do fun classes, which are called specials. My favorite special is art, because I get to create awesome projects. Library is another special, I love reading so much that I hate it when I have to return a book. The hot lunch here is super delicious and I order it every day.
Although I’m not sure what I want to do when I grow up, I am sure that the teachers at Timothy will help me figure it out. The teachers are really helping me grow and are preparing me for when I’m older.
We take some awesome field trips in first grade. My favorite field trip was when we went to the Field Museum. While at the Field Museum, I got to learn a lot more about history.
My favorite part about Timothy is that I get to go to chapel. I go to chapel every week with my two older chapel buddies. During chapel, we sing songs and listen to speakers who help us learn more about Jesus.
It is a big comfort having my big sister Morgan at Timothy, even though she’s in 7th grade. I like being able to go to school where I am with kids who are older than me, even high schoolers! By having older kids here I am able to learn from them and know that I am walking in not only their footsteps, but the footsteps of Jesus.
Timothy is great, because it’s a place where I can learn about God. I have great friends and teachers here who make every day so fun. They teach me new things and always make me laugh. I love everyone here at school. I especially love Jesus, who is always, always with me.
