Boys Basketball Wins First Sectional Championship in 30 Years!
In 1980, the US Hockey team beat the Soviet Union in the "Miracle on Ice," a video game called "Pac-Man" was first released, and Ronald Reagan was elected the 40th president of the United States. 1980 was also the last time that the Timothy Christian Boys Basketball program won a sectional championship- until this past weekend.
On Friday, March 5th, the Trojans defeated the Knights of Providence St. Mel on Friday night by a score of 58-47 to claim their first sectional title in 30 years.
Timothy started the game on fire with a 17-2 run over Providence St. Mel in the first quarter. The team never looked back. Providence St. Mel was able to cut the lead to 9 points on a few occasions, but never got any closer.
When the final buzzer sounded, the team had earned their sectional championship plaque. The Timothy student section rushed the floor, and everyone celebrated as the players and coaches cut down the nets.
Congratulations to the boys basketball team and to Coach LeGrand and staff on this great accomplishment! Congratulations are also in order for Mark Penczak who qualified to shoot down state in the 3 point contest for the second year in a row!
