Soccer Captain Corey Phillip Wins Athlete of the Month Award
Congratulations to Timothy Junior Corey Phillip on winning the TribLocal's athlete of the month award!
As captain of the Timothy boys soccer team, Phillip helped led the team to Timothy's first state championship in any boys team sport. Phillip lead the team in both goals and assists (with 20 and 18 respectively), and he clinched the IHSA class 1A state championship with the game winning goal in the 4th Overtime period.
The TribLocal High School Player of the Month award is presented to the nominee that receives the most votes in a TribLocal online poll. Phillip, a MSC all-conference player, was among 4 area high school athletes nominated for this award including Andrew Smith (Cross-Country runner from York HS), Brandon Pechloff (Football player from Montini HS), and Sara Taege (Swimmer from Glenbard East HS).
Phillip won the award with 54.4% of the total vote. Click here to see the final results (a free TribLocal ID is required).
As a winner of this contest, Phillip will be presented with the athlete of the month award. Also, the Timothy athletic department will receive a $500 check on behalf of Phillip's accomplishment. Thanks to all who voted and helped to win this award for Corey and for the school!
